A Level Music
In year 12 pupils will study performance, composition and learn how to appraise different styles of music. All learners will study the Western Classical Tradition (The Development of the Symphony) and one area of study from Rock and Pop, Musical Theatre and Jazz.
In year 13 pupils will learn to develop their performing, composing and appraising skills in greater depth and study one further area exploring the musical language and styles from the early twentieth century.
What will I learn?
Develop performing skills to demonstrate an understanding of musical elements, style, sense of continuity, interpretation and expression.
Develop composing skills to demonstrate the manipulation of the musical ideas and the use of the musical devices and conventions
Develop and extend the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to communicate effectively as musicians
Develop knowledge and understanding of a variety of instruments and styles, and of relevant approaches to both performing and composing
Appraise contrasting genres, styles and traditions of music, and develop understanding of musical contexts and a coherent awareness of musical chronology.
