Welcome to the interactive learning page for second grade students! On this page, you will find website resources for reading, writing, math, science, social studies, English Learners, and the arts. Kids can spend time learning with these sites to build fluency in all areas!
Math
In 2nd grade, your child is deepening their understanding of the Base Ten Number System, building fluency in addition and subtraction, exploring measurement using standard units, and using their knowledge of geometry to describe and analyze shapes. The online resources below offer an opportunity for your child to build on and reinforce ideas presented in the classroom.
Second graders should spend 20-30 minutes a day practicing math.
Play a variety of math games focusing on specific math skills
Use ten frames to find number combinations (Grade 2 students should play level 4)
Standards based math games
Practice place value by counting by ones and tens
Reading
Second graders should read silently or aloud for 30 minutes each day. It is important for students to read a variety of texts that they are excited about.
Throughout the summer, students should work on the Summer Work Packs sent home at the end of the last week of school. Lessons are labeled in the workbook beginning with "day 1." We encourage students to complete one lesson per day, Monday through Thursday, each week. There are 20 lessons total. Students should continue to read every day throughout the entire summer.
Young learners need to listen to stories every day! Students can hear stories read aloud from a family member and on other websites!
