Ready for a new foster?
Choosing & Tagging a Pet:
Foster will email tag@dallaspetsalive.org to let us know which pet they are interested in fostering with the animal’s name and/or identification number included in the album info. It is also helpful to include:
Whether this pet is a dog or a cat in your email or subject line
Any questions you may have about this pet prior to fostering
Estimated availability to pick this pet up. Please note, our shelter partners require pickup within 24 hours of confirmation.
DPA will send you the information that the shelter has provided to us and wait for your confirmation and when you would like to pick up.
Do not go to the shelter or attempt to pick up an animal without prior confirmation from the foster team.
Don't forget to save these numbers in your phone:
DPA Medical Emergency 214-550-2891 (supports phone calls and text)
DPA Behavioral Emergency 469-643-2003 (supports phone calls and text)
Since we do not have a facility or a place to house animals, we require foster commitment until the animal is adopted and willingness to work through both noted and unforeseen behavior or medical needs that may arise once out of the shelter.
DPA has monthly in-person and virtual training for canine foster pets. We also have a wealth of training resources and support. It is recommended that you DO NOT introduce your new foster pet to new people outside the household or to resident pets within the first week. Please review the decompression document prior to bringing an animal into your home.
If you need supplies prior to picking up your foster, please email supplies@dallaspetsalive.org to get connected with one of our three supply locations.
If you are currently renting, it is vital that you know and understand your landlord’s pet policy and respect any breed restrictions as well as pay any necessary fees associated with fostering. Some complexes waive fees for fosters, some don’t. If you are in doubt, please confirm with your complex prior to taking on any foster pet.
