Please review the below process prior to setting up any appointments:

Please be aware that our vet partners may be booked out several weeks for spay/neuter surgeries. We recommend scheduling this appointment ASAP. Spay recovery is 5-7 days and neuter recovery is 3-5 days. Your foster will not be able to go to their adoptive family until recovery is complete and all other needs have been met.

See here for the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Surgery: Postoperative Healing Guide

Parasite (heartworm, flea, tick, etc.) prevention is available through our Foster Pharmacy program. Contact prevention@dallaspetsalive.org to be connected to the closest Foster Pharmacy volunteer.

After each vet visit, please scan email copies of any invoices or records given to you to medical@dallaspetsalive.org.

If you choose to take your foster pet to an unapproved veterinarian, it will be at your own cost. DPA does not reimburse for visits to veterinary clinics outside of our approved network.

A note regarding naming and medical records: DPA has over 200 animals in our custody at any given time. A unique name will help us keep the records straight for all of our animals. Please use the same name in all communication with our veterinary partners and with our volunteers. For example, you can name your foster Clifford the Big Red Dog to attract attention on the website and call him Biggie at home, but you must use the name Clifford the Big Red Dog with our vet partners and volunteers. We appreciate your help in keeping all of our animal records accurate.
