Raise Me MiCro-scholarshipS

By Abe J. Selvas

As some of you may know, scholarship applications can be quite lengthy and extremely rigorous. Perhaps you may be seeking additional financial aid to the college/university you are planning to apply to and attend. Well, this month, I have found the perfect program for you! RaiseMe is an organization that has collaborated with numerous academic institutions to be able to aid students who are seeking to finance (and finesse) their education, and it is all for the low, low cost of free! It is simply a bargain you cannot ignore! To access RaiseMe, go online through any regular browser or download the RaiseMe application on your cellular device (maybe do both if you are feeling wild). It is a very simple application to handle and maneuver around.

Simply start by making an account with your email or phone number and set up a password, along with your info regarding the sign-up. Then, go to the "Colleges" tab, located at the top of the page. If you are on a smartphone, a magnifying glass icon at the bottom is also labeled "Colleges". Here, you can search for whatever college you are hoping to attend. Forewarning: while RaiseMe does collaborate with dozens of colleges and universities, there are chances that your dream school is not one of the collaborators; i.e. Wellesley College, Ball State University, Stanford, but you will have to do that part on your own (my psychic abilities only extend so far).

After you have selected the colleges for which you want to find Micro-Scholarships, direct yourself to the Portfolio tab (at the top if on a computer or towards the bottom if on a phone) and start filling out your portfolio to begin receiving some sweet, sweet cash (that you won't have until you get admitted into the university offering you those micro-scholarships).

A final tip for you scholars that will be taking charge with RaiseMe; PowerSchool is a gigantic help when it comes to filling out all the grades and classes that you have taken throughout your extensive and, hopefully, exciting high school career. After you log in, just click on the "Grade History" tab and voila! The trials and credits that you have gone through so that you can easily input your grades and classes into your RaiseMe Portfolio. Once again, remember to use the form at the bottom of the page to provide some feedback, and until next time, work hard--and good luck!
