STANDARD 5 – STUDENT SERVICES
STANDARD 5 – STUDENT SERVICES
SYSTEMATIC COUNSELING SERVICES, PLACEMENT, AND FOLLOW-UP PROCEDURES SHOULD BE USED.
5.1 PRE-ADMISSION PROGRAM ADVISEMENT
Prior to program admission, a student should be counseled regarding automotive careers.
A. Describe how students are advised on truck career opportunities and career exploration activities prior to program admission. Highlight access to the career process and student services available, as cited in catalog or other materials: Our school counselors visit all Freshmen and Sophomore classrooms to deliver a curriculum regarding college and career planning. Sample educational plans are shared with students based on educational and career interests. An internet-based college and career planning tool, Naviance, is introduced to all students. This program houses career information about automotive including required interests, skills, education, job requirements, salary, and different automotive career paths. Freshmen are advised to complete the Career Survey and all Sophomores complete the Strengths Survey during Counselor classroom instruction, both available through Naviance. Individual Counseling services are available to all students annually to review educational and vocational interests.
5.2 PLACEMENT
A student placement process should be used to assist students in obtaining employment in industry, related to their training.
A. Describe the placement process used to assist students obtain employment or work-based learning in the industry. Link any documentation: This service is offered informally through relationships built between school personnel, students and local employers. Our ASE Advisory Committee is one place where these relationships are built. Through this committee, we conduct mock interviews used to better prepare for employment opportunities. Students also have the opportunity to earn ASE and AllData Certifications, making them more marketable in the work place. These certifications can be found here (21-22, 22-23, 23-24).
Autos classes are also specified on student transcripts

5.3 ANNUAL GRADUATE FOLLOW-UP
A follow-up system should be used to determine graduates' employment location and for feedback regarding the efficiency, effectiveness, and appropriateness of training. The follow-up procedure should be designed to assure feedback regarding needed additions to or deletions from the training program including instruction, tools, and equipment. Follow-up of graduates employed outside of the automobile industry should indicate reasons for non-automobile service employment. When applicable, this information should be used to modify the training quality and/or content.
A. Describe annual formal follow-up system used to determine graduates' employment or continuing education: A survey is sent to all recent graduates who have taken part in the Autos I, II and III programs as well as the Residential Maintenance courses. This survey inquires about current education and employment, areas of study, post graduation work in the automotive industry and future career paths. It also requests more information if the student has chosen to leave the automotive industry.
B. Link the annual follow-up procedure/survey used to obtain the graduates assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of their training.

C. Show how the follow-up procedure/survey provides feedback needed for additions or deletions to the training in the following areas.
E. Describe how information from the follow-up procedure/survey is used to modify the training program: Individual response data is analyzed by the course instructor, department chair and administration staff. A discussion occurs on what is working, what needs improvement and overall feelings student have toward the program. The team looks to enhance the strengths of the program with the specific feedback. If there are areas for improvement, the team first determines if this is a reoccurring result. If it is, adjustments are discussed and implemented in the program. However, there is always a continuous discussion on how to align the program best to industry standards while achieving student success.
NOTE: The ability to use the information from the Graduate Student survey depends on the response rate to the survey. The number of graduates responding fluctuates. We continue to consider the best approach to graduated students. Student records (i.e. email and physical addresses) are not updated after graduation.
