THE AUTOMOBILE TECHNICIAN TRAINING PROGRAM SHOULD HAVE CLEARLY STATED PROGRAM GOALS, RELATED TO THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS AND EMPLOYERS SERVED.
1.1 EMPLOYMENT POTENTIAL
The employment potential for automobile technicians, trained to the level for the specialty or general areas outlined in the program goals, should exist in the geographic area served by the program.

St. Charles East Completer Data by Year
Recently St. Charles East has seen a downward trend in students taking and completing our Auto III course. There are several factors that contribute towards this trend, but currently, as we are structured, this class is run as a two period course, which presents a challenge when students are looking to ensure they are on track to earn the 23 credits to meet the graduation requirements of St. Charles District 303. Additionally, this course serves as a capstone experience, so generally we see higher numbers in Autos I and II, but many of our students taking our introductory courses are not interested in pursuing a career in the automobile industry.
1.2 PROGRAM DESCRIPTION/GOALS
The written description/goals of the program should be shared with potential students and may include admission requirements if applicable, employment potential, area(s) of specialty training offered, and the cost of all tuition and fees. Technical qualifications of the faculty and the overall goal(s) of the program should also be included.
School counselors visit all Freshman and Sophomore classrooms and deliver a curriculum about college and career planning. Sample educational plans are shared with students based on educational and career interests. An internet-based college and career planning tool, called Naviance, is introduced to all students. Freshman complete the Career Interest Inventory and Sophomores complete the Strengths Explorer survey. Both surveys are found in Naviance.
Students participation in Autos I, II, and/or III, allow them to apply what they have learned to real world situations in the automobile industry. As students move through these different courses, it provides the foundational skills as they build to participating in Autos III which operates like a commercial automotive repair facility. Upon completion of all three courses, students are prepared for entry-level automotive employment and/or their post secondary education.
