ASE Summaries and Renewal Notices
Item 6.5.c Document shop evaluation/tour in advisory minutes.
Item 7.15 Educational fleet could use refreshing in relation to age and equipment on vehicles.
St. Charles East Auto Shop Vehicle Inventory
Item 9.1.a Current shop space limits number of work stations or car spaces for student lab activities.
(We are capped on our space here at East High School and don't have the funds available to add on. What we have done is try to be more purposeful with our space in terms of cleanliness, organization, and placement of tools/equipment in order to maximize opportunities for students' work stations and car spaces during lab activities.) The shop space has been expanded over the past two years. Removal of 5 cabinets that were in the main shop opened up much more work space in the middle of the shop. A second bay was added to the front of the shop after relocation of a brake lathe and sand blaster. The lathe and sand blaster were moved to the classroom after two cabinets were removed there.
Item 9.9a Classroom demonstration area lacks exhaust removal system.
The classroom only has one bay. Rarely do we have cars running in that bay. When we do, we just hook up an exhaust hose and run it outside. The back of the car is only a few feet from the garage door. This is common practice in the automotive industry.
Item 10.1 New instructors do not meet ASE certification requirements.
Our secondary Auto Instructor currently teaches 1 section of Autos 1: Introduction to Auto Maintenance. He has not completed his 20 hours of training for the 2023-2024 or the 2024-2025 school year. He has communicated his intent to retire at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year and it our intention to hire someone with current ASE credentials.
Item 10.3.b Documentation of 20 hours of update training per year not consistent.
