Sculpture is the last medium we explored in the first half of the year! We learned that sculpture can be made out of many different things! Sculpture is different from other types of art because it is 3-Dimensional. First, we explored sculpture by using paper, then snow! Kindergarten was already making sculptures in the snow at recess when I met them outside for art class!

Kindergarten is always learning new mediums in art. We learned that printmaking is like stamping. We can make hand and fingerprints, or we can used other objects and tools to make art prints. We read the book "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds, then made prints inspired by the main character Vashti's artwork. We used bubble wrap, and other circle shapes to make "Dot" Prints. Once we learned what printmaking is, we used real artist tools like a Brayer and Ink to make Styrofoam printing plates of snow men!

LE16E: Caring for Art Materials, Tools, and Spaces

Kindergarten explored the caves of Lascaux virtually. We talked about how humans have created art for a very long time, and what tools and materials ancient artists would have uses. We looked at symbols found in paleolithic art and used them to recreate scenes from a prehistoric cave.

LE17C: Using Art Vocabulary to Talk About My Art

Kindergarten learned that the primary colors are so special because they make all of the colors in the color wheel. We practiced mixing the primary colors together by using oil pastels to make a primary and secondary color color wheel. Once we knew how to mix our colors, we made paintings of fish by first drawing the fish and tracing our lines with oil pastel, then painting using only the primary colors.
