Operations & Facilities

Cleaning and Disinfecting

Schools will engage in frequent thorough cleaning each day. All staff will be trained in proper cleaning and disinfecting. Common spaces such as bathrooms and hallways, and frequently touched objects and surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected at the beginning, middle and end of each day. We will continue to follow regulations regarding cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting.

  • Frequently touched objects and surfaces include:

    • Hand washing sinks and faucets

    • Door handles and handrails

    • Metal and plastic playground equipment

  • The use of shared bathrooms will, as much as possible, be limited to the groups that are already in cohorts together. Breaks will be scheduled so as to avoid overcrowding.

  • Equipment and furniture that cannot be either sanitized or limited to use by a single student will be removed from classrooms. Paper-based items, such as books, are not considered high risk for transmission and do not need additional cleaning or disinfection procedures.

General principles to promote physical distancing and reduce viral spread:

  • Students will be kept in groups, not to exceed the maximum number allowed by state guidance, including teachers and staff. (see Classroom considerations)

  • We will install physical barriers in reception areas and employee workspaces where the environment does not accommodate physical distancing.

  • Students standing in line will be spaced apart.

  • We will limit the sharing of materials (see classroom considerations)

hvac and air flow systems

We are taking a four-pronged approach to help reduce airborne transmission of the Coronavirus:

  • All systems are being evaluated by an HVAC professional to ensure they are working at maximum design efficiency.

  • We will be increasing outdoor air ventilation as much as possible while balancing for optimal temperature and humidity parameters

  • We will be extending our ventilation systems schedules to "flush" the buildings both before and after school.

  • We are upgrading our filters to the ASHRAE recommended level, a MERV 13, on our systems that can handle the additional filtration. When not possible to meet recommendations we are bringing in consultants to help us maximize filtration in other ways.

Volunteers, Visitors, Field Trips

CVSD Schools will implement the following requirements for Volunteers, Visitors and Field Trips:

  • No outside visitors and volunteers may enter our buildings except for employees or contracted service providers for the purpose of special education or required support services, as authorized by the school or district.

  • Field trips are only allowed if the program is able to maintain all health guidance, as well as guidance from the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, as it relates to public outdoor spaces.

  • Parent/family visits must be pre-arranged and approved.

Update from the Spring 2021 Agency of Education Guidance:

Field trips are allowed if the program can maintain all health guidance. Outdoor and virtual field trips are strongly preferred. Indoor field trips are not preferred, but allowed if students are distanced on buses and in the facility, and do not mix with students from other pods, schools, or the general public.
