Please fill out this form to indicate interest in moving from in-person hybrid to fully remote.
We thank you for responding to our survey, and for joining this program. We are excited for this opportunity to provide you with a high-quality CVSD learning experience. This update is to share some of the details about the planning we are doing for this program.
Please understand the development of this program is extremely fluid, and as such, there will be much work done in the coming days and weeks. The details we share today should be added to those below the update to provide as complete a picture as we can provide at this time.
Identified students selecting the fully-remote option for each grade level and each school
Identified CVSD teachers interested in teaching in the fully-remote option.
Met with each school administrative team to discuss staffing implications on both options (hybrid and fully-remote).
Began the process of matching teachers and students from the same schools when possible. We discovered this is easier to accommodate for the K-4 core academic areas than it is for grades 5-8. Most K-4 teachers are generalists, meaning they teach all core content areas, whereas middle level teachers tend to be more specialized. Therefore, we will be creating a district-wide teaching team for grades 5-8.
Identified grade-spans and content areas where we need to add staff to meet the needs of the number of fully-remote students
Established remote-learning curricula that is tightly aligned with in-person curricula for each content area.
Establish the teaching teams by aligning staff with grade-spans and content areas.
Fully-remote teams meet to establish protocols, platforms, expectations (attendance, schedules, etc.)
Communicate with each student and family to establish schedules, and set up the necessary materials, devices, and access.
Week of Aug 17-21
Establish teaching teams for each grade-span and share updates on placement information with families by the end of the week
Week of Aug 24-28
Per contract, teachers begin August 24. They will have ten days of pre-service to prepare for the beginning of the school year
Fully-remote teams will work together during this time to develop schedules and protocols, and receive additional support and professional development
Teams will connect with students and families for initial introductions and conversations. It is important to note that students will be able to revisit the decision to be fully-remote once they have more details about this experience
Week of Aug 31-Sept 4
Teams will design learning opportunities, lesson plan together using the district curricula, and receive additional support and professional development
Teachers and/or teams will meet with each student and family to establish a schedule and share expectations
Week of Sept 7-11
Fully-remote instruction begins Sept 8
Students will follow established schedules aligned with the regular school calendar and meet established attendance and participation protocols
Teachers and families will communicate weekly about expectations and progress
Thanks so much for your patience and cooperation. We will update this site often.

For ALL students:
Participating in remote schooling may require significant parent or caregiver oversight, especially for students in younger grades.
Students enrolled in remote learning will continue to receive special education services online through the district.
Attendance, grading, and workload requirements will be consistent with in-person classes.
Dates will be set for supply pickup so that students can receive any technology, textbooks, or other supplies necessary to engage in remote learning.
School meals will be available for pick up at the school with the possibility of some delivery service. More information on meals will be available soon.
Students may still participate in CVSD co-curricular activities
We have developed fully-remote learning curricula that is tightly aligned to the curricula that students will experience in the hybrid model.
It's important to note that teachers providing hybrid instruction will not be available to provide instruction in this fully-remote option; therefore, a team of CVSD teachers will be selected to implement this option; who will serve on this team will be determined by a number of factors, including how many students are interested in this option, where they are from, and grade-levels.
Based on how many families elect to receive fully-remote learning, classes may be grouped across grade levels. For example, K and 1st grade together or 2nd and 3rd grade together.
There will be synchronous or “live” opportunities for teachers and students to interact. Teachers will have a daily presence through Google Meet and/or Zoom. How much synchronous vs asynchronous learning will be determined by the teaching team.
The time commitment of virtual learning will mirror a typical school day using a balance of offline (books and paper) and digital instruction.
Daily and weekly social-emotional learning lessons will be embedded in the curriculum to support the unique needs students are facing during this pandemic.
Daily attendance is required and will be noted through participation in an online classroom activity.
As with students learning in-person, students enrolled in fully-remote learning will be assessed using CVSD assessment and grading practices.
