Colorguard is an integral part of the Central Valley High School Marching Band! Colorguard members are the visual story tellers who incorporate the use of what we call THE TRIAD: body/dance, drill/movement, and equipment/flag or faux weapons like riffles and sabers from the military tradition of silent drill teams.

You instantly become part of the award-winning Central Valley HS Band program. Anyone is welcome to be a member of the colorguard. We want to introduce you to the skills and help you join Central Valley HS Marching Band - a place where you can meet a lot of fantastic people and perform with an amazing program.

We are hosting an Open Call for students to come and work out with some amazing volunteer coaches, and to ask questions about the program.

We interested expect students to have very little or even NO experience. You are welcome no matter what. It'll be our job to help you grow into the best version of you! So come give it a try!

All members must attend the virtual Marching Band Registration night on Tuesday, June 15th to complete their application process. Please email Mrs. Barrett with any questions at

CV Outdoor Concert

Congrats everyone. Our outdoor concert and performance at CVHS Graduation were a huge success. Thank you to the students and parents who took extra time to help with set-up and teardown. We look forward to a robust performance schedule in the 2021-2022 school year.

2021 Central Valley Percussion Workshop

Percussion Placement

We will hold an open workshop for students who want to participate in the CVHS Marching Band percussion program next school year, 2021 - 2022. The workshop is meant to give you a chance to work with the band staff and experienced students to help assess and grow your current skill level so you are prepared and placed on the correct instrument for marching band.

Students who currently are in the 9th, 10th or 11th grade are expected attend, as are 8th graders from Evergreen MS, Greenacres, North Pines MS and Selkirk MS - who expect to attend either CVHS or Ridgeline HS in 2021 - 2022. Times and materials are highlighted below, if you do not come to these events - we do not know if you want to be part of the incredible marching band experiences BOTH schools will offer - please make sure we see you. Come to all of the workshops or just the two for the instrument you want to work on the most, bring the printed packet downloadable with the respective dates. Prepare and Record

  • Chromatic Scale in the packet

  • Lyrical Piece in the packet (Danny Boy)

  • Etude Piece in the packet (prepare any 8 - 16 measures)

  • you may upload three separate FlipGrids.

You will simply use the FlipGrid code to upload your performance before the deadline, no restarts necessary. We regard accuracy over speed and tempo, so please play it the best you can - not the fastest that you can. Find 8 - 16 measures of music from the difficult etude that demonstrates your best right now - after a tricky year.

Only current CVHS 9th, 10th and 11th graders can audition for wind ensemble. Ridgeline students DO NOT need to audition for Wind Ensemble - it is not a select group at RHS next year.

Leadership Application

We are excited to offer the opportunity to students at both CVHS and RHS next year to be members of unique, dynamic leadership teams. Expect an exciting year with service minded leaders who are trying to help make a difference for their coaches, teachers and most importantly peers.

The process includes two major steps with very firm deadlines for completion. Start work now on the leadership application, and expect us to interview you based on your application answers. We love hearing your voice and having you expand on those ideas for us during the short interview process.

Central Valley HS Band and Colorguard

Celebration Night

Monday, June 1st at 7:30pm

H a m 4 H a m

The Central Valley HS Band and Colorguard Booster Club is trying to provide access for students to participate in an opportunity to see the US National Tour of "Hamilton: an American Musical."

We are asking for donations in increments of $10 (Hamiltons) for students to see Hamilton; ham4ham. It's $66 a seat, so you can see how far each generous Hamilton helps. Our students are amazing givers to our school and local community.

During the difficult time, a lot of stresses have been endured by families due to unemployment, income loss, or just the difficulty of navigating current finances.

What a way for you to reward these students and erase the strife of life and refill them with music of a story that talks about the birth of an American dream - coming up from the bottom to invent a new world. What a great part of the story you can be with your ham4ham donation to the CV Band and Colorguard Booster Club. Thank you for your consideration and support!

Concert Band Roster Assignments

Thank you everyone for your work if you auditioned for a band. Not all freshmen audition for a band and that's alright. We have seated everyone who did audition, and then we alphabetically listed everyone else. If there is an error and you are supposed to be in band but don't see your name, please email the director of bands, Kat Barrett at Thanks!
