Star Stuck
We had stars that glow only in the dark,
And they looked green and artificial; once
I found them beautiful to see, but now
They barely seem to glow at all. We put
Them up together on the ceiling one
Hot summer day, when things were possible
And the world was fair and just and pretty.
We put them up together on the wall,
He and I, when we were young and hopeful.
He started on the window side, and I
On the other, we met in the middle.
I made blankets while he made the cradle,
I ate the pickles and ice cream he brought
In the middle of the night. I wore
Bigger shirts as he lost weight by biking.
