A Nuisance
A Nuisance
I killed a fly in the bathroom,
a heavy and slow fellow.
Not for any of his faults
or crimes, but because I knew
I wouldn’t be able to sleep
with his loping buzz
riding the fan’s gulf stream.
I killed him for his potential
future annoyance.
I kneel on the floor
by the bathtub
(where I washed this morning),
wiping the small patch of blood –
crying –
and begging not to be a nuisance
to God.
