Neither military high-top nor cowboy kick-butt boot, not Bootsie nor Booty Call, nor slinky thigh-high stiletto, my boots are downright homey, inner shell scented; outer, mud-hued. Neither shiny nor young nor ashamed they provide a natural sedative of warmth. loose-laced or up-tight, like am the umbrella that doesn’t get left behind, the car door that opens, the alarm clock that never sleeps. I take the hit of ice and puddles, uphold the ankle rule. Upstanding citizen that I am, hard-soled, shock absorber; goat-hoofed, jeep. Ride me.
