Jessica Wyeth
Co-Editor-in-Chief
There are 236 entries in my notes app. Grocery lists, drafted texts, single-word reminders, short vignettes, shared bucket lists, gift ideas, addresses, passwords, workout circuits, prayers, responses to commonly-asked-icebreaker questions, overheard conversations, things to read, things to watch. I am an organized chaos.
Matthew Sawtelle
Co-Editor-in-Chief
Matthew Sawtelle is a junior philosophy major from Dallas, Texas. He loves poetry, and he delights the most when reading formal poets like Timothy Steele, James Matthew Wilson, and Robert Frost. When not boring someone to death by talking about the infinite rhythmical variation possible within a line of iambic pentameter, he enjoys reading St. Augustine in Latin and acting like he knows Greek. Matthew hopes to help the CUA community develop a passionate writing culture, and his dream is that Vermilion will inspire people to fall in love with creative writing.

Quotes that describe me better than I could:
“I am very small. And I have no money. So you can imagine the type of stress I am under.” ~John Mulaney
“If I am worth anything later, I am worth something now. For wheat is wheat, even if people think it is a grass in the beginning.” ~Vincent Van Gogh
“Treat people with kindness.” ~Harry Styles
“With freedom, books, flowers, and the moon, who could not be happy?” ~Oscar Wilde
Bridget Guinee
Managing Editor
Bridget can be described as a sunset orange sort of color. She enjoys rereading Jane Austen novels and Seamus Heaney poems, color-coordinating events in her Google calendar, and iced dirty chai lattes. Her personality is (apparently) comparable to that of a squirrel, a goose, and an otter. Oh, and Bridget is a senior English major with minors in marketing and Irish studies from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Judith Prevost
PR Manager
Judith Prevost is a junior English major from North Carolina. She enjoys playing the piano, spending time with her family, and arguing with her sister about Star Wars.
Matthew Allen
Events Manager
Matthew Allen is a sophomore who studies Classical Humanities. Hailing from Virginia, his interests include theology, politics, history, and old-fashioned writing.
Franchetta Groves
Social Media Manager
Franchetta Groves is a senior Media and Communications Studies major from Dillsburg, PA. She enjoys reading, writing, and analyzing/criticizing modern day adaptations of Jane Austen novels. Her favorite animal is a raccoon, she enjoys a good true crime podcast, and her favorite writing spot on campus is the stacks in Mullen Library.
Jules Sommers
Social Media Manager
I’m really not that interesting, I don’t even have a major. Imagine a typical youngest child, that’s me in a nutshell. I am a sophomore from Syracuse, New York, and currently my whole personality revolves around Yankee baseball, Tiktok, and my rat dog. I would barely consider myself a reader and I guess you could say I like to write, most of the time anyway.
Jessica (Ha) Ngo
Website Director
Jessica is a senior in Biomedical Engineering. She joined Vermilion as a website editor for the magazine’s Winter 2022 Issue.
Carolina Beretta
Social Media Manager
Carolina, or more commonly known as “Lina,” is a senior psychology and brain sciences major with a double minor in writing and philosophy. She finds wonder, tranquility and identity in the arts as she spends her free time writing poetry and drawing. When not consumed by the arts, existentialism, or psychoanalyzing the world, she spends her time outdoors skating, hiking, and other adrenaline pumping activities--and more often than not acquiring a new injury in her physical endeavors like badges of honor. She strives to become a nurse practitioner specializing in psychiatric health.
Gabriela Baez
Events Director
Ella Baez is a senior English major from Loudoun County, VA, whose passion for writing started with a typewriter. When the moment arises, Ella scribbles down poems, short stories, and personal narratives. As a Barnes & Noble fan, Ella buries herself in the historical fiction, classics, and YA fiction sections. Her guilty pleasures consist of manga and long sticks of Tootsie rolls. On CUA’s campus, her favorite place lies on the third floor of the Law School Library. As an only child and military brat, Ella’s considerate and ambivert personality levels out her vanity. When she gets her diploma, Ella plans to apply for a masters in Library and Information Science. Most of all, Ella strives to elevate Vermilion’s name for writers seeking a niche and platform for their creativity.
