Class of 2022 Reflections

Many HTHS seniors have been involved in research beyond the required sophomore independent research project. Some of these seniors have shared their reflections on this research experience.

Research has probably been the biggest part of my time at High Tech, and I wouldn't have it any other way. From staying up late doing literature reviews to conferencing with my peers, I have been able to have so many varied experiences that made me into a better person. Doing research has significantly influenced my plans for myself in the future and opened my eyes to the potential of scientific inquiry. I will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the fall and plan to study Electrical Engineering.

Taking part in Research Practicum, competing at JSSF and DVSF, and helping run the ReconX club at High Tech have all been valuable experiences as part of my high school career. Because research is integrated into the curriculum, it is much more approachable and I was able to discover that it is something I am interested in continuing in the future. I will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the fall and plan to study Computer Science.

Conducting research in high school taught me how to turn my natural curiosity into a deeper understanding of the world. Unlike a typical class, in a lot of the HTHS curriculum there was no correct answer to reach or even a given problem to solve. Being able to decide those things myself while still learning so much made my experiences here very memorable. I’ll always be incredibly grateful to High Tech’s research program for showing me how to wonder, challenge, and investigate. I will be attending Columbia University in the fall and plan to study Computer Science.

Doing research at High Tech has been an exciting and rewarding experience. I learned so much about experimental and engineering processes, and doing my own projects has given me the chance to create and learn about something I'm interested in. At High Tech, we have a community of students who are passionate about research, something that has been extremely inspiring and supportive. I will be attending John Hopkins University and plan to study Chemical and Biomolecular Engneering.

Research has been an incredible and meaningful way for me to explore my diverse interests further and learn new skills. I had a refreshing level of autonomy, along with the crucial guidance of High Tech's structured classes, experienced teachers and ReconX club. My experiences these past few years have inspired me to pursue research in university and possibly beyond. I will be attending Rutgers University in the fall and plan to study Biomedical Engineering.
