Dear reader,

Did you know only 13% of all Oscar winners have been women? This startling statistic underscores the pervasive gender disparity in the film and Hollywood industry. This statistic reflects both a lack of recognition for women in film but also the lack of recognition for the contributions so many women have had to the ever evolving industry.  It is important to move beyond the popularized portrayal of feminism by highlighting and addressing the nuanced topic of various experiences women have from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultures. Embracing the idea of intersectionality in feminism is incredibly important in helping the uplifiting of female voices. By recognizing the diversity of the feminine experience in film, we help shift the industry towards a more inclusive storytelling and breaking away from stereotypical portrayals. Please explore some of my favorite films and directors as they share their art through a feminist lens.
