The Center is involved in an array of research activities across a broad spectrum of criminal justice issues. This includes conducting data collection and analysis as well as helping organizations build their research, analytic, and data science capabilities through consulting, training, dissemination of findings for the greatest evidence-based and budgetary impacts, and other services.
Types of Consulting Services
Strategy & Planning: Our faculty experts help organizational workgroups refine their research and decision-making goals and then create actionable plans to meet them.
Data Science & Methods Research: We help public safety agencies, schools, and community organizations understand and use data effectively to guide decision-making, improve programs, and tell their story with confidence.
Make Sense of Your Data. We help you understand where your data come from, what they do (and don’t) tell you, and how reliable they are—so you can make smart, informed decisions.
Combine Information from Different Sources. If you're working with data from multiple departments, agencies, or systems, we help you align and clean those data so they work together clearly and consistently.
Use the Right Tools to Find Patterns. Our team applies a range of quantitative and qualitative methods—including regression models, geographic analysis (GIS), social network analysis (SNA), interview and focus groups analyses—to examine complex datasets and help you interpret results clearly. We apply proven methods to help you understand what’s happening, why it matters, and what to do next.
Design Better Surveys. Whether you’re surveying your staff, your community, or program participants, we help you design clear, useful questions—and make sure you reach the right people in the right way (sampling and administration of your survey).
Collect Meaningful Stories and Feedback. Not everything fits in a spreadsheet. We also help you design, gather and analyze interviews, focus groups, and community feedback so you get the full picture.
Policy, Programs, & Evaluations: We assist with designing, implementing, and evaluating targeted policy and program interventions meant to improve outcomes for a variety of populations.
Evaluation research is applied research that is designed to assess the implementation and effectiveness of programs operated by public and private agencies. These programs are frequently funded by public sources that require independent assessments. The evaluation usually includes a process evaluation to examine the problems of project implementation (e.g., staffing, turnover, use of resources), and participant outcomes, such as a reduction in crime, violations, and/or drug use, employment, improved health and well-being of participants. They can also include cost-benefit savings analysis, risk assessments, implementation evaluation, etc.
