Dr. Shteynberg's research predominantly focuses on issues surrounding legal decision-making and access to justice, particularly as they concern courts and legal reforms, and the implementation of programs and policies (e.g., bail reform, risk assessments, plea bargaining and sentencing, indigent defense and access to counsel, pretrial services and diversion practices, specialty/problem-solving courts, interrogations, use of body worn cameras, and the adjudication and policing of juveniles). One of her ongoing projects examines how the pandemic altered court processes and outcomes, as well as the work environments, practices, and decisions of people who work in the courts. She is also the PI/CO-PI for a multi-year, multi-site Project Safe Neighborhoods evaluation project.
