CSUMB's Co-Teaching Field Experience Model
At CSU Monterey Bay, co-teaching is defined as two education professionals - a Teacher Candidate and a Cooperating Teacher - working together to share the planning, organization, delivery and assessment of instruction, as well as the physical space.
Teacher Candidates (TCs) should plan to participate in ALL pre-start of school training/professional development as permitted by the district.
Elementary Program Co-Teaching Teacher Candidates:
complete two semesters of supervised teaching (co-teaching).
may begin the program in the fall or in the spring.
enroll in ED 601 for Stage 1 Supervised Teaching and enroll in ED 603 for Stage 2 Supervised Teaching. (Note: A Teacher Candidate's section number for ED 601 or ED 603 corresponds with the assigned Clinical Coach.)
Secondary Program Co-Teaching Teacher Candidates:
remain in one supervised teaching (co-teaching) placement site for the entire year.
enroll in ED 624 for Stage I Supervised Teaching in the fall and enroll in ED 625 for Stage II Supervised Teaching in the spring. (Note: A Teacher Candidate's section number for ED 624 or ED 625 corresponds with the assigned Clinical Coach.)
Special Education Program Co-Teaching Teacher Candidates:
typically complete the program in 18 months.
have co-teaching field placements during their first semester and their final semester of the program, enrolling in SPED Initial Practicum (SPED 567 A or B) during their first semester and SPED Final Practicum (SPED 577 A or B) during their final semester .
All co-teaching teacher candidates follow the district calendar for the semester in which they are co-teaching. They begin in their placement prior to the start of their fall CSUMB classes; they continue in their placement after the conclusion of spring CSUMB classes.
A minimum of 600 hours of supervised clinical practice across the arc of the program is required.
