A CSU Monterey Bay Cooperating Teacher serves as a mentor teacher for a teacher candidate enrolled in one of the co-teaching pathways of our programs (Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education).
A CSU Monterey Bay Cooperating Teacher serves as a mentor teacher for a teacher candidate enrolled in one of the co-teaching pathways of our programs (Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education).
Cooperating Teacher Minimum Eligibility Requirements include:
Evidence of effective teaching practices
Demonstrated mastery of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP), California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs), and best teaching practices
Ability to coach and mentor pre-service teachers through co-teaching and provide timely and effective feedback
Commitment to growing as a mentor
Demonstrated professional dispositions that align with the teaching profession
Understanding of site culture, policies, and expectations
Ability to effectively collaborate with peers and teacher candidate
Consummate professional who consistently contributes to a positive, professional school culture
Clear Credential in the content area for which they are providing supervision and a minimum of three years of content area K-12 teaching experience
Demonstrated exemplary teaching as determined by the district and CSUMB (CCTC requirement)
Adherence to the CSUMB Gradual Release of Responsibility Timeline
Ability and willingness to remain current in the knowledge and skills necessary for candidate supervision and adhere to program expectations (CTCC requirement)
Partner School Definition: A CSU Monterey Bay Partner School serves as the field placement for candidates in the co-teaching pathways of our programs (Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education).
Per CCTC requirements, partner schools should:
Have a commitment to evidence-based practices and continuous program improvement
Partner with appropriate other educational, social, and community entities that support teaching and learning
Place students with disabilities in the LRE (Least Restrictive Environment)
Provide robust programs and support for ELLs (English Language Learners)
Reflect socioeconomic and cultural diversity
Permit video capture
Have fully qualified site administrators
CSUMB requires that partner schools:
Demonstrate coherence between university instruction and practices at the school site (two-way conversation)
Have administrators who support and are committed to cooperating teachers and teacher candidates
Employ a sufficient number of qualified cooperating teachers
Be able to support a minimum cohort size
Have possible placement opportunities for special education
Demonstrate a commitment to co-teaching and co-planning
Have co-teachers and administrators who demonstrate a commitment to CSUMB professional development opportunities
Have a data sharing agreement with CSUMB
Support teacher candidates with edTPA implementation
Implement formative and summative assessment to drive instructional decisions
Have a strong instructional culture
CSUMB prefers that partner schools have demonstrated stability and retention of site administration as well as demonstrated implementation of a Multi-Tiered System of Supports.
