As a new or continuing Cooperating Teacher, we are here to support you throughout the semester or year!
Cooperating Teachers should:
view our program Orientation.
participate in self-paced, virtual Pairs Training modules with your candidateĀ
help your candidate feel comfortable and welcome.
review important school/district policies, procedures, and schedules with your candidate.
ensure your candidate has equitable access to curriculum and online platforms essential to teaching and learning.
share materials and ideas with your candidate.
encourage your candidate to be involved in school/district professional development opportunities, as appropriate.
clearly communicate expectations (to the teacher candidate and to the clinical coach).
assist your candidate in developing standards-based lessons.
review and adhere to CSUMB's Suggested Timeline for Gradual Release of Responsibility.
observe your candidate and provide constructive feedback using the California Teaching Performance Expectations as a framework.
know and implement the Co-Teaching Strategies emphasized by CSUMB.
mentor and guide your candidate.
model effective teaching strategies and professional behavior for your candidate.
be flexible, understanding, and patient.
allow your candidate to try new ideas.
maintain consistency and accountability.
complete two end-of-semester evaluations for the Teacher Candidate through MySLP (an Overall/Cumulative Candidate Evaluation and a Professional Dispositions Evaluation).
