What are the roles and responsibilities of a CSUMB Clinical Coach?
CSUMB Clinical Coaches mentor, evaluate, and support teacher candidates (intern and co-teaching) in partner district schools. They play an essential role in fostering positive, productive working relationships with teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, university faculty and staff, and school/district personnel.
Clinical Coaches provide critical support to candidates in lesson plan development, goal-setting based on the California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs), and other areas.
What kind of support do Clinical Coaches receive?
CSUMB provides Clinical Coaches with coaching protocols and templates, professional development opportunities, and support with software (MySLP and Canvas). All Clinical Coaches are invited to participate in beginning-of-year orientations and pairs training events.
How much time is involved?
This is part-time faculty opportunity requiring a minimum of 5 to 15 hours per week. Transportation costs to school sites are reimbursed by the university.
Clinical Coaches typically visit their candidates approximately every other week in the field, and guide reflection and debriefing conversations. Clinical Coaches are required to conduct a minimum of six (6) periodic and two (2) formal observations for each of the teacher candidates they are supervising for the current semester, and log these visits in MySLP.
Clinical Coaches are encouraged, but not required, to attend monthly program meetings to share updates on their candidates' progress and participate in important discussions related to curricular and district initiatives.
How can I apply to be a Clinical Coach?
All interested individuals must first apply to the CSUMB Position "Lecturer AY - Education & Leadership." Click here to read more about employment with the university.
