This program is an introduction to computer science designed for teachers working in K-9th grade settings. No previous CS experience is required before entering this program. We have designed the courses to build CS competencies and grow the network of CS educators in Central California.
Â
In addition to the three programming languages used in the course, we are providing a survey of computers and society, computing ethics, instruction on hardware, computational thinking, software, physical computing, and unplugged programming practices.
As a higher education institution, CSUB will only offer the coursework that is needed to satisfy the CTC requirements for this supplementary authorization. It is the responsibility of the student, once successfully completing the program, to file the application with the CTC.
For this current year, 2023, all costs will be covered by a series of grants. These costs are limited to books, materials, and tuition. We are not able to provide living stipends or any other related funding.
The primary mode of learning will be an asynchronous model. This is delivered through our learning management system, Moodle. However, past students have asked for synchronous instruction time in which they may meet as a group with the instructor to discuss weekly topics. Each of the programming courses will also offer weekly class times in which to meet synchronously. These sessions are always recorded and archived for later review if needed. :)
Unfortunately, no, the special education course sequence is missing specific course(s) that will not allow for this supplementary authorization to be awarded. All applicants must have a preliminary or clear credential in multiple or single subjects other than special education. More information on this limitation may be found on the CTC website.
Note: All school locations are noted at the time of the program completion.
