Happy New Year!

Reflection and Goal Setting

January has always been a time for me to reflect on the past year and set goals for the new year. I remember not really knowing much about goal setting when I was in my early 30’s. I knew what a goal was, but I never really understood one very important concept...if you write out your goals and reflect on them, most of the time they will come to fruition.

When our kids were small, I wanted to take them to Disneyland, but my husband and I were not sure if we could afford it. Of course, it is every parent's dream to take your children to the most magical place on earth. We were sitting at the kitchen table, and I was working on a list of house repairs. Then, I added Disneyland to the list. My husband thought I was crazy and that we could not afford both house repairs and Disney in the same year. Guess what?? We did it.

Several years later, I was cleaning out the closet and found that list. I grinned to myself, imagining how my knowledge of goal setting had grown. I learned that in order to reach goals in life you must write them down, visualize them, and set a plan to achieve them. This was exactly what happened with the Disneyland list without me realizing it.

Reflecting on 2020, I listened to Bob Proctor's free webinar called Mindset 2020. In January 2020, I printed off his workbook, followed along, and set my goals for the year. I wrote down goals I wanted to achieve but wasn’t certain were possible. Then, I began to read my goals every week. I created a vision board. I started taking time to dream, imagine, and think. Guess what? They happened. I am working at a job that I absolutely love. I have written books, started a company, and bought a lake house. Those were all on my goal sheet. I will be doing it again this January, and I encourage you to do the same.

I hope that 2021 is everything that you wish for and dream about.

What I have learned: Take time to dream and think. It helps you find out what you really want in life.
