Alumni Night would be a night when alumni are home (most likely before a long weekend or break) where they can come to Payton and interact with juniors and seniors and give them advice on how to shape their high school career and structure their college essays to get into colleges of their choice. This night would include food/drink (the only potential cost of the event) and speeches from alumni about their high school experience; the night will also include a portion where a panel of alumni will sit at the front and any student who wants to ask questions can ask.
Counselor Sessions would be panels of Payton's guidance counselors that would be willing to share some tips with the Payton upperclassmen. These sessions would most likely be virtual, and would be group sessions that cater to different majors people want to study in college + general advice for college applications and tips on how to stand out to colleges.
Current Status: Planning is still in progress, with an estimated date January.

The goal of the Cultural Fair initiative is to organize a school wide, after school or during enrichment (or starting during enrichment and extending after school as well), fundraiser and performance space for cultural clubs. This event will take place in the spring and will be similar to the Cultural Fair we had two years ago. This event will allow clubs to have tables where they get to share about themselves to all of the students and will have the opportunity to raise funds for their club to use for the rest of the year and into the next year.
Current Status: StudGov has reached out to clubs and is working toward a tentative date in April!

The goal of this initiative is to renovate the lunchrooms to make them inviting places for people to eat. In schools such as Whitney and Lane, students have open spaces with comfortable seating and good lighting to eat lunch. Lunch time is one of the only 45 minute blocks during school where kids get a break and can socialize. The atrium is a popular place to eat because it is open and spacey, however, many people do not like sitting on the ground. The long tables in the lunchrooms and limited windows in the East cafe almost makes it feel like a jail. Students deserve a nicer place to decompress and enjoy their meals.

SSS is an initiative focused on uplifting the less appreciated staff members in the Payton community: the adults that are the driving force behind our school. This includes the nurses, janitors, security guards, and kitchen helpers and student aids that are the backbone of the Payton environment. We think it’s important to appreciate these staffers because it will help form a closer community at the school and promote unity. Additionally, the majority of students don’t know these adults that we see everyday and it would be valuable to show them appreciation.

The Ice Cream Social will be a place where everyone (family, friends, and all) can gather to enjoy an evening after a hard day of school or work. It is a great time to build community, friendships, and memories!
An evening after a school day to enjoy ice cream and cookies with the school community. We're hoping it can be held in the softball field with music.
Current Status: The committee is rerouting its efforts away from an ice cream social toward offering free cookies to students during lunch periods, as part of our upcoming Come Talk With Us lunch events.

Student Government is about STUDENTS. This initiative aims to add more student input into the events that we do in student government, and would involve two google forms sent to all students at the start of every year. The first google form would be sent at the beginning of the school year and would provide a space for students to suggest important events that they feel are needed for the year (this could be holiday event suggestions, or for events like a voter registration event, etc.). After going through these responses, the second form would be sent out a couple weeks into the school year and would have events that student government has either brainstormed or responses from the first google form that are voted upon as doable and useful events. The point is: there are many opportunities for little holiday events/events that could help increase school/holiday spirit and bring the student body together.
Current Status: Instead of focusing on new events this year based on student input, the committee has refocused its efforts on getting input from students on future events in coming years, and taking feedback from students on recent events.

The Club Website will allow students to learn about clubs that are offered within Walter Payton, this will include the google classroom code, their past achievements, and prerequisites needed to join the club (if any). Payton has a variety of clubs that meet every enrichment, but these club meetings can be confusing, if they aren't advertised. This website will aim to inform students about the clubs that occur at Payton, alleviating the confusion when, where, and why a club meets!

The goal of this project is to highlight Payton’s unique community through fun, short videos that foster connection amongst the student body as well as serve as a window into WPCP’s vibrant student life for those outside of Payton. Some video examples include: guessing candy, trivia questions, guess the lyrics, favorite things about Payton, and so much more. These videos would be posted on the StudGov Instagram and TikTok approximately every 2 weeks. Payton students are so much more than their test scores, we’re dynamic and special in our own ways and this side should be celebrated and recognized just as much as our grades are.

To recap, SRV is an initiative aimed to keep the student body well informed, with a main purpose focused on introducing incoming freshman classes to the school system.
Last year, the SRV committee made many big steps toward the site launching. We have created a script for how to navigate our enrichment platform and plan on creating more scripts for resources unique to Payton. Emails have been sent out to PALS for creation of these videos. For resources that do not need videos like explaining seminar days, we plan on creating text that just requires a simple translation. However, for more well known things such as Google Drive, we plan on linking already existing YouTube videos to be more efficient and save time for everybody. After a baseline of videos has been created, we plan on discussing with Mr. Dvorak and Mr. Arabie for review of the videos and to implement them onto the wpcp.org site.
