Clubs are an integral part of our school culture and community. Clubs help engage students in activities that interest them, bringing them closer to others with similar interests. As the bridge between Administration and the student body, we can really help foster our school community by interacting with club leaders more. They can help give us direct feedback on what they need and how we as student government can help.
By being more involved with clubs, we can better communicate with them about important events such as club grant submissions, cultural fair and fundraising.
Work with identity clubs in the planning of cultural fair for this year.
Identify other clubs to help organize large fundraising events for them as well.
Create a dedicated group of people to reach out to clubs, receive constructive feedback from clubs, engage club leaders in school wide events, and encourage fundraising. This allows student government to work side by side with clubs to improve their experience.
Current Status: The Club Coordination initiave made big strides in the right direction regarding StudGov's relationship with clubs, but there's still lots more to be done. Our new Club Coordinator position on the Student Government Executive Board, filled by Maya Shah, will improve that relationship in the coming year.

On March 31st, the holiday of Easter falls. Also, during this time people are coming back from spring break and are anxiously preparing for PSAT and SAT testing. An Egg Hunt is the perfect thing to help alleviate stress during this time - it will allow people to have a lot of fun. The egg hunt event, taking place throughout the day with eggs hidden in the morning, involves people searching for eggs containing unique codes inside. These codes can be uploaded to a Google Form for tracking so we can know who found the egg. The student with the most collected eggs (could do top 3 but TBD) by day's end wins a prize (giftcard, off campus lunch, donuts). This exciting event will foster unity among students and shared experiences that contribute to our vibrant school culture. It will provide an opportunity for students to unwind and connect which overall enhances the school experience.
Current Status: The Egg Hunt was successful! We're hoping to bring the Egg Hunt back this coming Easter, so stay on the lookout!

On March 19th we have our general primary elections and on November 5th we have our general election! Regarding the voter turnout rate of young people (18-22), generally around 1 out of every 3 vote. We can do our part at Payton by striving for a more active civic culture which supports civic engagement like voting. Though you can only vote if you are 18+, what many people don’t know is that you can pre-register to vote if you are 16. The majority of the Payton population (some sophomores, all juniors, seniors) are eligible to pre-register, yet probably have not done so. Before the primary election on March 19th, we will be hosting a StudGov Get Out to Vote Drive and campaign to get as many Payton students registered/pre-registered as possible. Our goal will be at least registering 300+ students. We will be working with the League of Women Voters to get the word out about this for the event which will take place on February 2nd.
Current Status: The voting registration drive was successful! Thanks to everyone who participated.

All of Payton’s locker rooms and bathrooms are missing crucial mirrors. In fact, in each of the girls+ bathrooms of the east building, there is one single mirror that students have to crowd around in order to all get a view of themselves. Sure, they’re great for spontaneous bathroom meetup mirror pics but safety wise not so much. When my friends and I have to crowd around these mirrors, people have a hard time entering and exiting the bathrooms. Especially with our large bags, jackets, and sports bags, there is so much space taken up in front of the bathroom door and it becomes a tripping hazard! Plus, it’s extra awkward when there's a friend group you don’t know occupying the whole area around the mirror. The Mirrors initiative will allow for each person who needs a mirror to use it with ease and no crowding. Therefore adding more singular mirrors will make Payton bathrooms safer. To clarify, we will also be adding mirrors to boys+ bathrooms.
Current Status: The Mirror Mirror initiative was unfortunately unsuccessful due to time constraints at the end of the school year.

The participatory budgeting initiative will allow the student body to influence the spending of StudGov funds, and improve school spirit by fundraising fun projects (buying things for the school). Items include tea kettles, toasters, and board games for the school.
Current Status: The Participatory Budgeting initiative was super sucessful last year, and brought a foosball table and charging stations to the school. Keep an eye out for more participatory budgeting information this year.

At the 18th District North Larrabee Police station, there are Venezuelan migrants sleeping on the floor inside of the station and in tents around the front. This is right on our doorstep and we as a well resourced community can and should do something about it.
The Venezuela Project will unite the clubs under Payton in a united effort to try to assist them in any way we can. We will be in direct communication with the police station via phone and possibly in person conversation so that we provide the help that is actually needed.
Current Status: Project Venezuela was unsuccessful because migrants were able to be moved from police stations to city-provided housing. SAUCE originated from Project Venezuela as StudGov's service arm, aiming to do community service in other areas.

As a branch off from Project Venezuela, we are expanding our focus beyond just migrant communities at the police station by Payton out into our communities in general. This will be an initiative where we as StudGov will organize donation drives, coordinate volunteer opportunities at shelters or community centers, and get both reps and the general student population involved in giving back to the community.
This will accomplish four things:
Serving the community
Bonding, both in StudGov and the student population
Branding for StudGov: demonstrating that our impact expands beyond just dances
Personal development: participating in community service builds character and keeps people in touch with society
Current Status: SAUCE was unsuccessful because finding a service project that everyone could engage in proved difficult, and because other intiatives were prioritized.

Signing day is a tradition that many schools across the country participate in. It is where the student-athletes that have been recruited and will be continuing their athletic career on a varsity sport in college will be celebrated. These students will bring their parents and wear merch from the university that they’re going to. The students will sign a piece of paper signifying that they agree to go to the university. These students will be announced and the student body will applaud them.
Current Status: Signing Day was super successful, and has been added to the StudGov Constitution as a yearly event, and will now take place annually!

Introducing SRV’s- Student resource videos. These videos will help guide the process for the transition from non-cps schools into the CPS system. They can help guide people to set up their account, guide them through Aspen, and show them how to turn things in to common applications used by the school like Google Classroom, or even how to work Google Drive. There can also be videos/texts that can help people navigate Sched, how to get an excused absence, etc.
Current Status: SRV scripts were written at the end of last year and translations were in progress. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, these videos have yet to been published. StudGov is aiming to put these videos on the school website this coming school year.

Introducing AAA. No, not the car repair company or the battery. This one’s an online portal, with the title standing for Accountability, Access, and Attainment. That is, a way for StudGov members to be held accountable for their participation, for the student body to have access to StudGov materials, and for both StudGov and the student body to make their joint goals tangible. (You're on the AAA website right now!)
