All sophomores are required to complete the full year of PE II to meet graduation requirements. In addition to the PE II requirement students will earn the 30 hours of classroom instruction for Driver’s Education during the 2nd or 3rd quarter of their PE II course.
If a student chooses to take Driver’s Education at a private facility in order to obtain their license at an earlier time they may do so. They can then do the following:
The student needs to provide documentation to their counselor that they have completed the necessary 30 hours of classroom instruction as required by the Secretary of State of Illinois towards obtaining a license in the state of Illinois.
This however, does not qualify them for a driver education "waiver", study hall, or movement to another sophomore PE class when the driver education unit arrives. Each teacher is still responsible for the student's whereabouts, providing instruction, and a grade for PE 2; it just so happens that the student has prior exposure to the content. They are still expected to complete work assigned to them by their instructor and be present in class.
