Population and Economy in Europe: Economic Sectors


1st Session:

Objective: Students will be able to define population and identify the major economic sectors in Europe.

Assessment: Students will create a concept map showing the relationship between population and economic sectors in Europe.

Key Points:

- Definition of population

A population is the complete set group of individuals  with a common characteristic.

- Overview of economic sectors in Europe

The three-sector model in economics divides economies into three sectors of activity: extraction of raw materials (primary), manufacturing (secondary), and service industries which exist to facilitate the transport, distribution and sale of goods produced in the secondary sector (tertiary) (remember 4th year Soc.Sci ~ PP&Olga  MIN EXPL ).

- Importance of economic sectors in the European economy. 




2nd Session:

Objective: Students will be able to explain the primary sector of the European economy and its importance.

Assessment: Students will create a poster showcasing examples of primary sector activities in Europe.

3rd Session:

Objective: Students will be able to describe the secondary sector of the European economy and its significance.

Assessment: Students will participate in a group discussion about the role of the secondary sector in Europe.

- Industrialization in Europe

- Contribution of the secondary sector to economic growth


4th session:

Objective: Students will be able to explain the tertiary sector of the European economy and its impact. uTube

Assessment: Students will create a skit demonstrating different types of tertiary sector businesses in Europe.

Key Points:

- Definition and examples of tertiary sector activities

- Service-based economy in Europe

- Importance of the tertiary sector for employment


5th Session:

Objective: Students will be able to analyze JOBS of the European economy and its role.  uTube

Assessment: Students will write a short paragraph describing jobs and what sectos they belongs to.

Key Points:

- Definition and examples Jobs

- Technological advancements in Europe

- Influence of each sector on economic development



6th session:



7th session:

Objective: Students will be able to compare and contrast the different economic sectors in Europe.

Assessment: Students will create a Venn diagram highlighting the similarities and differences between the economic sectors.

Key Points:

- Comparison of primary, secondary, tertiary, sectors

- Interdependence between sectors in the European economy



8th Session:

Objective: Students will be able to apply their understanding of population and economic sectors in Europe through a project.

Assessment: Students will work in groups to create a presentation on the economic sector of a specific European country.

Key Points:

- Researching and presenting information about a European country's population and economic sectors

- Analyzing the relationship between population and economic sectors in the chosen country

1. VIRTUAL Trip: Visit a local business or industry to explore how it fits into the economic sectors discussed in class.


2. Current Events Discussion: Have students research and discuss recent news articles about population and economic trends in Europe.
