8 Sessions Planing Unit 4 Nat.Sci.

Day 1:

Objective: Students will be able to identify the main parts of a plant and their functions.

Assessment: Students will create a diagram labeling the parts of a plant and write a short paragraph explaining the function of each part.

Key Points: Roots, stem, leaves, flowers, and fruits are the main parts of a plant.

Standard Addressed:: Support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.

Day 2:

Objective: Students will be able to classify plants into different groups based on their characteristics.

Assessment: Students will create a Venn diagram to compare and contrast two different types of plants.

Key Points: Plants can be classified as flowering or non-flowering, as well as by their structure (e.g. trees, shrubs, herbs).

Standard Addressed: Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment.

Day 3:

Objective: Students will be able to understand the process of photosynthesis and its importance to plants.

Assessment: Students will write a paragraph explaining the process of photosynthesis and its significance to plant growth.

Key Points: Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into glucose and oxygen.

Standard Addressed: Support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.

Day 4:

Objective: Students will be able to identify different types of plant adaptations and understand how they help plants survive.

Assessment: Students will create a poster showcasing different plant adaptations and explain how each adaptation helps the plant survive.

Key Points: Adaptations include thorns, spines, waxy leaves, and large leaves for capturing sunlight.

Standard Addressed: Develop a model to describe the movement of matter among plants, animals, decomposers, and the environment.

Day 5:

Objective: Students will be able to recognize the importance of plants in everyday life.

Assessment: Students will create a multimedia presentation highlighting the various uses of plants in different aspects of life (e.g. food, medicine, clothing).

Key Points: Plants provide us with oxygen, food, shelter, and materials for various products.

Standard Addressed: Support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water.

Final Project  Activity Suggestions:

1. Plant Investigation: Students conduct a hands-on investigation to explore the growth of different plants under varying conditions.

2. Plant Scavenger Hunt: Students go on a nature walk to identify different types of plants and document their findings.

3. Plant Exhibition: Students create a display showcasing different plants they have learned about throughout the unit.
