Read Ready Covington is a city-wide early literacy initiative that helps families, caregivers and educators prepare our littlest readers to become future leaders. By using free access to learning applications such as Footsteps2Brilliance® and Clever Kids University® as well as other educational resources throughout the city, our shared goal creates an environment for lifelong learning in Covington that’s collaborative, comfortable and fun. Together, we are helping the children of Covington be prepared for a brighter future.
Join the fun by participating in the following activities!
Footsteps2Brilliance® is a transformative pre-K through 3rd grade literacy solution that utilizes mobile technology to connect school, home, and the community for academic success. Its innovative Mobile Technology Platform allows comprehensive literacy apps to be accessed online or offline from any mobile device (Apple or Android) or traditional computer.
Footsteps2Brilliance is 100% free for all Covington residents!
The comprehensive Footsteps2Brilliance curriculum contains thousands of interactive eBooks, songs, and games in English or Spanish. We have won numerous awards for using game-based methodology to engage students and inspire a love of learning.
Footsteps2Brilliance covers phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and writing.
Your child most likely already has an account. If you are unaware of the login information, please contact your child's school teacher, CLC coordinator, or email info@readreadycov.com.
Please visit the Footsteps2Brillance website HERE for additional information.
Clever Kids University® is the family edition of Footsteps2Brilliance®, the premiere early learning curriculum used by the most innovative school districts throughout the United States. Clever Kids’ game-based methodology makes learning fun and engaging for children and their parents.
Please share the joy of Clever Kids University with your children and be sure to talk and laugh with them about what they are seeing and doing. The conversations you have with your children about the stories and animations they discover in our programs will inspire them to love learning. They will become creative and vibrant thinkers poised to succeed in school and in life.
Clever Kids University includes phonics, reading, math, and science for pre-readers and emerging leaders (ages 3-6).
Clever Kids University: Pre-Reader is designed to develop the skills children need to be ready for kindergarten and become strong readers. Your child will work on letter recognition, number sense, scientific concepts and vocabulary, social studies, and much more.
The heart of Clever Kids University: I Can Read are 26 decodable books. By developing all the prerequisite skills your child will need in a step-by-step fashion, they will be able to read their first decodable book by day 4.
Clever Kids University: Pre-Reader (preschool/kindergarten)
Each week includes two Together Time activities that families can do away from a device. These activities are designed to enrich the learning that is happening on the app. Each activity requires only a few minutes and can be completed with minimal preparation.
Clever Kids University: I Can Read (kindergarten/first grade)
Each week includes a printable Sam book that your child has learned to read independently. We recommend that you print a book each week and complete the following activities:
Step 1: Have your child practice reading the Pattern Words, Sight words, and Fun Words presented on the inside front cover.
Step 2: Read and discuss the “Prepare to Read” prompt with your child.
Step 3: Encourage your child to read the book to you multiple times over the next few days.
Step 4: Have your child complete the writing activity at the end of the book and share their work with friends and family.
Please visit the Clever Kids University website HERE for additional information.
Covington families and visitors can take a walk in any of five different neighborhoods to enjoy a scavenger hunt, visit a little free library, or encounter one of four surprise ground games located around the City.
How can families participate? Request an A-Z Walking Tour Passport from your school, the public library, or stop by City Hall to pick up a Passport. Complete all the fun activities in the passport, sign it, and turn it in to your teacher or City Hall.
While supplies last, preschoolers through 2nd graders and their families that complete the Passport will receive a prize from Read Ready Covington!
Don’t want to complete the Passport but you like scavenger hunts? That’s okay. Everyone is invited to just have fun finding the 26 installations located in each of the five neighborhood tours (maps below). Walking the five tours is great exercise! Go to the Read Ready Covington site HERE for more information.
While on your tour, did you pass a Little Free Library? Help yourself to a book and take it home. Inside or outside, reading together daily is like vitamins for our brains.
Shapes, numbers, animals, and fruits make up the fun ground game challenges in Covington park shelters, school playgrounds, and other public spaces. Challenge each other to the questions found on each game or make up your own!
