What is your favorite food? I know, it’s hard to choose with so many different kinds! What we eat changes for a person, family, and country. This week we are going to get a taste of five types of food and beverages (a big word for drinks). We are going to write about drinks, appetizers, soups/salads, entrees (fancy for the main course) and desserts.
You can think of it as our very own restaurant week! In fact, let’s call it, Restaurant Covington. As you enter, our host will greet you, show you to a comfortable seat, and hand you a menu. Welcome to Restaurant Covington!

Week Two: Short Stories
This week’s writing prompts focus on short stories. Each day, choose one of the provided writing prompts to create your very own short story.
What is a short story? A short story:
tells about a single event or experience.
is fictional (not true).
has a beginning, middle, and end.
can usually be read in one sitting.
entertains the reader.
After you’ve finished your story, design the front cover of the storybook. You can print the book cover sheet, create a digital book cover, or color a book cover on a sheet of paper. Remember to include a title and your name as the author!
*Students in grades K-2 can opt to tell their stories aloud rather than writing the stories.

Option 2: You wake up one morning and you can’t hear anything, but you notice that you can see things you’ve never been able to see before. What do you see? How do you get through the day without being able to hear?
Option 3: A girl gets up to go to school, but when she looks in the mirror, she’s suddenly twenty years older. How old is she? What does she do?

Option 2: A comic book hero visits your house, and they need you to help them.
Option 3: Suddenly, you find that you’re invisible and you don’t know how long this will last. What do you do while you’re still invisible?
Week Three: Goals
It is BACK TO SCHOOL time!! Your teachers and staff at school are so very excited for you to begin a new school year.
While this year looks a little different, we are all working together to make this year the best one yet!
This week, we will focus on a new school year and setting goals for the year.
In addition to the daily writing prompts, work to complete the "My 2020 Goals" worksheet throughout the week.

Week Five: Lights On Afterschool
Lights On Afterschool was launched in October 2000 with celebrations in 1,200 communities nationwide. The following year 3,600 events took place. Today, more than 8,000 Lights On Afterschool rallies are held annually, attracting 1 million Americans and media coverage nationwide.
Lights On Afterschool is a project of the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to quality, affordable afterschool programs. Former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has served as Chair of Lights On Afterschool since 2001.
