The nation’s special education law, Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), defines the term “child with disability” to include 14 specific disability terms. Addressed here are the categories reflective of student with IESPs attending Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of NY, including speech and language impairment, autism spectrum disorder, learning disability (and resources for specific disabilities), and other health impairment (e.g., ADHD). The resources provided are intended to deepen educators' knowledge and understanding of each disability as well as provide strategies to support students with diverse learning needs in inclusion classrooms.
