This video outlines a basic overview of discussing representation in relation to media texts. It must be stressed that this is a basic overview and to access higher grade boundaries a more in depth analysis would be expected with clear evidence and detailed examples.
Laura Mulvey theorises that all Media creators, regardless of gender, subconsciously think of their audience as male. As a result this influences their choices regarding camera angles, editing, script etc. in order to best appease the gaze of their supposed male audience.
All screencasts below cover theory that is required for the A-level syllabus. If you are a GCSE student, feel free to have a go at learning about some. If you are able to understand and apply some of these, it will help you attain a Level 9. These are by no means essential learning though.
