We are here to ensure that "No otherwise qualified individual with a disability shall solely by reason of her or his disability be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance."
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a civil rights statute that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This statute is enforced by the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). Also, OCR enforces Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), reauthorized as the ADAAA of 2008, which extends this prohibition against discrimination to the full range of state and local government services (including public schools), programs, or activities regardless of whether they receive federal funding or not. Therefore, Section 504 is now part of the ADAAA and is enforced as such.

I graduated from University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelors degree in Health Communications and a minor in Dance. I later earned my Master's degree in School Counseling from Lenoir Rhyne University. For the past 10 years, I have had the privilege of working as a School Counselor, primarily in elementary schools, and I am thrilled to begin a new chapter as part of the Section 504 team at Myers Park High School.
In addition to my work in education, I am also a passionate dance instructor, teaching students ages 3-18 in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, and pointe. Choreographing routines and watching my students shine on stage at recital time is one of my greatest joys.
Outside of school, I treasure spending time outdoors with my family and soaking up every moment with my Husband and 17-month-old son, who keeps life fun and full of adventure.
