Environmental print is the print/words in everyday life. Such as the labels on food and drink, store signs, road signs, labels on toys etc. It is an important pre- literacy skill for children.
Activity to do together at home!
1- Name the environmental print from the pictures.
2- Identify/name the beginning letter of the environmental print picture.
( such as T : Target)
3- Identify/name the sound the beginning letter makes. ( such as /t/ : Target)
4-See if you can name what category it is from- such as food, drink, store signs etc.. ( sorting the print/picture) ( such as Store signs : Target)
Extra activity: Go on a hunt around your house for more environmental print! You can even go outside and look around your neighborhood too.
