Beginning of Year Study Celebration ideas: The beauty is you can do ANYTHING you want to showcase what the students have learned throughout the unit! It is a time to invite parents to come see. It can be very simple or it can be more of a production. Brainstorm ideas…make it fun!
Big ideas…
Make a slideshow/video of a day in the life of a Pre-K student and let the kids be the narrator.
Set up ‘centers’ that families can rotate around with their child that provide them a small window into their child’s day. (Toys and Games/manipulatives, art or play dough challenges, discovery challenges, cooking activity, etc.)
Create a scavenger hunt/tour of the classroom/school that the parent and child can do together. (Gingerbread Man Loose in the School...students make their gingerbread man and look for him...Is he in the principals office? Is he in the nurses station? Is he in the custodians closet? Is he in the cafeteria...YES...he made you a special gingerbread snack!!)
Choose a couple of the ‘favorite’ activities, stories, poems, songs and share them with the families in a short program.
Make a Pre-K ‘quilt’ with ‘quilt squares’ (paper, markers) that represent what they have learned during the unit. Dictate their ‘story’ and display their work.
Small ideas…
Have a simple art project that families can do together.
Have a simple recipe that families can make together. (pizza's, cookies, ice cream sundae's, trail mix, fruit pizza cookies, etc.)
Have a simple mural that families can make together.
Create a ‘gallery’ of work. Dictate the students “What I learned…” and post it with their creation (playdough, painting, drawing, etc.)
