PE Courses

Note: Physical Education 1 or ROTC is required for graduation. Physical Education 2, Weight Training, Personal Fitness, and Team Sports are electives and will not meet the one-unit requirement for graduation.

 

Physical Education 1 - 1 Unit – Grades 9-12

College Preparatory Prerequisite: none

This course concentrates on individual skills and development, as well as, team concepts. Emphasis is placed on competence in each activity. Students may participate in basketball, softball, volleyball, badminton, team handball, and tennis. Physical fitness is an integral part of this course. Students will participate in various fitness activities and fitness tests. Each student will be required to develop a personal fitness plan. Physical Education 2 – 1 Unit -   Grades 10 – 12

College Preparatory Prerequisite: Physical Education 1

This course is an extension of PE 1 and will concentrate on advanced skill development and team concepts. Students will be introduced to and use various team strategies and concepts. Students will participate in numerous individual, dual, and team sports. Physical fitness will be an integral part of the class. Fitness preparation and testing will be included each of the nine weeks.  PE 2 is open to all students who have completed PE 1. PE 2 does not meet the graduation requirement. [344220CW]

 

Physical Education 3 – 1 Unit -   Grades 10 – 12

College Preparatory Prerequisite: Physical Education 1 & Physical Education 2

This course is an extension of PE 1 & PE 2.  The course will concentrate on advanced skill development, team concepts, and fitness component testing. Students will be introduced to and use various team strategies, concepts and fitness principles. Students will participate in numerous individual, dual, and team sports. Physical fitness will be an integral part of the class. Physical Education 4 – 1 Unit -   Grades 10 – 12

College Preparatory Prerequisite: Physical Education 1, Physical Education 2, Physical Education 3

This course is an extension of PE 3.  The course will further develop advanced skill development, team concepts, and fitness component testing. Students will use various team strategies, concepts and fitness principles. Students will participate in numerous individual, dual, and team sports. Physical fitness will be an integral part of the class. Fitness preparation and testing will be included each of the nine weeks.  PE 4 is open to all students who have completed PE 1, PE 2, & PE 3.  PE 4 does not meet the graduation requirement. Aerobic Fitness

College Preparatory Elective Prerequisite: PE 1, AFROTC 1

This unit is designed to introduce and provide opportunities for students to develop the basic and intermediate skills in a variety of exercising activities.  The components of fitness: muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness will be emphasized throughout the year. A variety of aerobic fitness activities will be included in the class such as  Aerobic Walking, Step Aerobics, Jazzercize, Yoga, Weights, Team Sports, and others as determined by the instructor.  Comfortable yet supportive clothing and tennis shoes for light jogging and lifting is required.  [349999CW]


Unified Sports – 1 Unit Elective Credit - Grades 10 – 12

Prerequisite:  Participation in Unified Sports

Special Olympics Unified Sports® is an inclusive sports program. It combines students with and without intellectual disabilities (ID) for sports and fitness activities. This class provides opportunities for students of different abilities to train and practice together as a team.  CHS is a Unified School, empowering youth with and without ID to change the world through sports. It uses sport to promote social inclusion. Students with and without ID both benefit from having Unified Sports in their school. They make friends and develop social and emotional skills. It creates inclusive learning experiences for all.  [3499UFCW]

Weight Training

Physical is required for ALL Personal Fitness, Sports-Fitness, and Weight Training - To ensure that students are physically able to participate in these programs, a Clover High Athletic Physical is required.  Students must have a physical dated on or after April 1  Students should return the completed physical form on or before April 24.  

 

Weight Training for Males - 1 Unit – Grades 9-12

College Preparatory Prerequisite:   PE 1 and current Clover High School Athletic Physical on file   

This course will improve physical fitness levels of the students through learning and practicing fundamental skills and the safety principles of weight, strength, and conditioning training exercises. Weight Training is open to all male students who have completed Physical Education 1.  Weight Training does not meet the graduation requirement for PE.  [349901CW, 349903CW, 349904CW, 349905CW, 349923CW, 349924CW, 349925CW]

Sports Fitness – 1 Unit – Grades 10-12

College Preparatory Prerequisite:  PE 1, Approval by Department

This course is designed to improve physical fitness levels for athletes through learning and practicing various strength and conditioning exercises.  Weight training using both free weights and resistance machines will be an integral part of the class.  Students will also be exposed to the facts concerning proper diet, fitness, and exercise.  This class will meet the needs of athletes for pre/post season conditioning.  This class does not meet the graduation requirement for PE.  Students may take up to four units in personal fitness.  [3499S1CW – 3499S9CW; 34991SCW – 34999SCW; 3499F1CW, 3499F2CW, 34993FCW]

Health

Personal Health - ½ Unit - Grades 10-12

College Preparatory Prerequisite: Concurrently enrolled in Drivers Education OR American Government

This course includes all comprehensive health education content areas in compliance with the South Carolina Comprehensive Health Education Law (Act 437) with the exception of the human sexuality components. It encourages students to develop positive lifetime health skills. Specific topics include nutrition, exercise, fitness, first aid, safety, and chronic and infectious diseases.  Students will be made aware of the complexity of mental/emotional health in their lives, how to improve or maintain their mental health and how to identify various resources available to them for this topic.  Students will understand and demonstrate basic hands-on CPR skills and be given basic AED training. Human Growth and Development - ½ Unit - Grades 10-12

College Preparatory Prerequisite: Concurrently enrolled in Drivers Education OR American Government

This course includes all comprehensive health education content areas in compliance with the South Carolina Comprehensive Health Education Law (Act 437). Human sexuality components are provided on reproductive health education, sexually transmitted diseases, family life education, and pregnancy prevention education.  Students will be made aware of the complexity of mental/emotional health in their lives, how to improve or maintain their mental health and how to identify various resources available to them for this topic.  Students will understand and demonstrate basic hands-on CPR skills and be given basic AED training.
