What is Advanced Placement?

• The Advanced Placement Program® (AP) enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school.

• The program consists of college-level courses developed by the AP Program that high schools can choose to offer, and corresponding exams that are administered once a year.

• In the state of SC, students who take AP courses are required to sit for the corresponding AP exam. If enrolled in an AP course, the state pays the fee for the AP exam.

Builds skills and confidence.

• AP students learn essential time management and study skills needed for college and career success.

• They dig deeper into subjects that interest them and learn to tap their creativity and their problem-solving skills to address course challenges.

• Students who take AP courses send a signal to colleges that they’re serious about their education and that they’re willing to challenge themselves with rigorous coursework.

What is Dual Enrollment?

• The Clover High School Dual Enrollment program is becoming more robust as we are expanding our offerings with USC-Union, Winthrop, and York Technical College. 

• Dual credit courses—Are those courses for which the student has been granted permission by his or her home school to earn both high school units of credit and college credit. One quality point may be added to the CP weighting for dual credit courses that are applicable to baccalaureate degrees, associate degrees, or certification programs that lead to an industry credential offered by accredited institutions per established district articulation agreements (see also SBE Regulation 43-234, Defined Program, Grades 9–12, and Graduation Requirements).

• Students are able to take college courses from our approved postsecondary partners and earn both college and high school credits. 

• Most DE courses are weighted the same as AP courses in the UGP,  which is on a 6.0 scale.

• The cost to Clover families from all three institutions is much less than taking a college credit class during college. Please review the specific college pages for most specific tuition information. 

On-campus opportunities

Student attends class on the CHS campus. Classes are taught either virtually by a college professor, by a college professor who travels to our campus, or by CHS teachers who are certified in both secondary and post-secondary education. Fees may apply.   Partnerships are with USC Union, Winthrop University, and York Technical College.

Off campus opportunity - Middle College

   Student attends class on the YTC campus.  The Clover School District provides transportation to York Technical College and pays for the tuition and books for each student. Students must complete an application as well as a scheduled interview to be considered for Middle College. Future plans, previous grades, discipline record and school attendance will be taken into consideration.
