Virtual Opportunities / i-School

Clover High School is committed to excellence and to providing personalized alternatives for students to be successful.  i-School refers to the virtual learning environment housed in a computer lab on the CHS campus. Virtual learning offers a unique opportunity for students to utilize a comprehensive, online courseware system that is academically sound and self-paced. It provides a convenient method of obtaining high school class credit. This flexible program enables students to take classes before school, after school, during the day, or at home to either remediate a class or to take courses for initial credit. Success in an online learning environment requires a student to possess a sincere desire to work independently. South Carolina Code §§ 59-16-10 through 59-16-80 regulates online learning. All procedural guidelines established by the Clover School District are based upon those statutes.

Students wishing to take virtual courses entirely, in lieu of the traditional in-person experience, should consider the Clover Virtual Academy.  Students attending Clover High School are provided online options when there are scheduling conflicts or when they wish to take an extra course.

Clover Virtual Academy

Clover Virtual Academy is a program separate from Clover High School in which students in grades 9 - 12 complete all or the majority of their classes virtually (online and from home).  There is an application process. More information may be found on the CVA website.

Clover High School Virtual Classes

Clover High Students may choose to take one or more classes virtually through one of three different and unique programs - Edmentum, VirtualSC, or a college dual enrollment class.  (Online dual enrollment courses are open to 11th and 12th graders.)

Policy

Initial Credit

Students needing a class for initial credit but are unable to schedule at CHS may apply to take courses through the CHS i-School for initial credit. Students who wish to take a class for initial credit must complete all assignments, course examinations, and any state test if applicable. Courses taken for initial credit are accredited and subject to the same regulations as any high school course.

Credit Recovery

Students who failed a course within the previous year may apply to recover the course credit through the CHS i-School Virtual Program. To be eligible, students must have earned a minimum grade of 50% in the failed course. Students taking a Credit Recovery course must be enrolled in the lab for a period during the regular school day, or the Early Bird session (Monday - Friday), or the After School session (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Final grades in a Credit Recovery course will be transcribed as follows:

Reteach/Retest

Students may attempt Reteach/Retest for individual units throughout the duration of the course for any unit assessment for which the student scores below 70. The teacher may assign Reteach/Retest through the virtual program. Reteach/Retest is designed to be proactive and meet the needs of students before failing a course occurs. Students assigned this opportunity to work on a unit may do so in the i-school lab before or after school, or work from home if internet access is available. It is important for students to discuss this option with the teacher as soon as they realize they need to retest or make-up work. Deadlines apply.

NOT ALL courses are available for Credit Recovery or Reteach/Retest through the virtual environment. Teachers have the option to assign virtual or teacher-directed opportunities.

Virtual SC

The SC Department of Education offers internet courses at no cost to assist students in completing their individual graduation plan.  Please discuss these options with your counselor.  Once the VirtualSC course is started, the final grade will appear on the transcript even if the course is not completed.  Please adhere to the VirtualSC drop policy to avoid a penalty.
