Physical Fitness Assessment
Each student identified by the Texas Education Agency will participate in an annual physical fitness assessment. The Fitnessgram assessment instrument will contain criterion-referenced standards specific to a student’s age and gender based on the physical fitness level required for good health. Good health components will include aerobic capacity, body composition, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and a flexibility assessment.
Up to 4 credits of Physical Education or Athletics may be earned toward the total number of credits for graduation.
Physical Education HS (1 Credit) Grades 9-12
This course promotes physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy lifestyle choices through a variety of activities, including sports, fitness training, and recreational games. Students will learn about the importance of physical health, goal setting, and injury prevention while developing skills in both individual and team sports. The course encourages lifelong fitness habits and physical well-being.
Athletics 1 (1 Credit) Grade 9
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of competitive athletics, focusing on skill development, conditioning, and teamwork. Students will participate in a minimum of two athletic events, learning techniques for improvement and strategies for performance. Emphasis is placed on physical fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship, preparing students for higher levels of athletic participation.
Athletics 2 (1 Credit) Grade 10
Building on the skills learned in Athletics 1, this course focuses on advanced training techniques, strategy, and performance enhancement in competitive sports. Students will participate in a minimum of two athletic events, learning techniques for improvement and strategies for performance. Emphasis is placed on physical fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship, preparing students for higher levels of athletic participation.
Athletics 3 (1 Credit) Grade 11
