The Arts, Audio Visual Technology, and Communication (AAVTC) career cluster focuses on designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing, and publishing multimedia content requiring creative aptitude, fluency in computer and technology applications, and proficiency in oral and written communication. This career cluster includes occupations ranging from camera operator, audio and video technician, director, and producer to graphic designer and web and digital interface designer.

The Graphic Design and Multimedia Arts program of study explores the occupations and educational opportunities associated with designing or creating graphics to meet specific commercial or promotional needs, such as packaging, displays, or logos. This program of study may also include exploration into designing clothing and accessories, and creating special effects, animation, or other visual images using film, video, computers, or other electronic tools and media, for use in computer games, movies, music videos, and commercials.

Level 1
Principles of Arts, Audio + Video Technology (1 Credit) Grades 9-10
Students will be expected to develop an understanding of the various and multifaceted career opportunities related to the arts, audio/video technology, and communications career cluster. During this course, students will examine a wide range of concepts including copyright, safety and technology, photography, principles of design, audio video production, animation, and fashion design.
Level 2
Graphic Design and Illustration II (Yearbook 1) (1 Credit) Grades 10-12
This course introduces students to the basics of graphic design, focusing on creativity, design principles, and technical skills. Students will explore color theory, typography, and branding while using tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Through hands-on projects, they’ll create professional-quality designs and build a portfolio, preparing for creative careers or further study.
Level 3
Commercial Photography I and II (Yearbook 2) (1 Credit) Grades 10-12
This course introduces students to the art and business of commercial photography. Students will learn camera operation, lighting techniques, composition, and photo editing using industry-standard software. Through hands-on projects, they’ll create professional-quality images for advertising, portraits, and product photography while building a portfolio. The course emphasizes creativity, technical skills, and real-world applications, preparing students for careers or further study in photography.
Level 4
Practicum of Graphic Design (2 Credits) Grade 12
This advanced course provides hands-on experience in graphic design through real-world projects and client-based work. Students will refine their skills in design software, branding, and visual communication while building a professional portfolio. The practicum emphasizes collaboration, project management, and preparing for careers or further education in the graphic design industry.
