English I (Credit 1) Grade 9
Students learn to apply their understandings of reading and writing processes to a variety of genres, including literary, informational, and argumentative. Students will study both classic and contemporary texts with an emphasis on theme development, epic characteristics informational text and connections between classic texts and contemporary ideas. The use of writing and reading notebooks, the development of research questions and source gathering, and frequent opportunities for teamwork and collaboration are also key components of this course.
English I Honors (Credit 1) Grade 9
This course is designed for students who wish to have a more challenging and rigorous English I experience. In addition to the emphasis areas listed to the left, English I honors students will be afforded opportunities to engage in lengthier and more challenging reading and writing experience with more sophisticated levels of instruction and more advanced skill work.
English II (Credit 1) Grade 10

English II Honors (Credit 1) Grade 10
This course is designed for students who wish to have a more challenging and rigorous English II experience. In addition to the emphasis areas listed to the left, English II honors students will be afforded opportunities to engage in lengthier and more challenging reading and writing experience with more sophisticated levels of instruction and more advanced skill work.
English III (Credit 1) Grade 11
Students engage in a variety of reading a writing experiences that consider how traditional and contemporary texts from 20th and 21st century America represent a view of the human condition and spirit. Reading selections from various genres (including plays, novels, poems, and speeches) provide an emphasis on comprehension, language skills, reader response, and author's purpose and craft. Students will write multi-page essays (informational and argumentative) in a writing workshop environment. Inquiry and research study includes instruction in creating a research plan, synthesizing information, and organizing ideas.

Students will enroll in the ENGL 1301 course through a college program and will complete the online requirements to complete the fall course. They will have a class period during the school day to complete required work. They must pass the first part of the course to be eligible to take the spring semester.

English III Dual Credit 2 (HS Credit 0.5, College Hours 3) Grade 11
Students will enroll in the ENGL 1302 course through a college program and will complete the online requirements to complete the spring course. They will have a class period during the school day to complete required work.

English IV (Credit 1) Grade 12
Students will read and write on a daily basis. Text studies focus on the comparing and contrasting of universal themes in contemporary and traditional works from a variety of cultures and countrie, including traditional British works. Students will analyze the effects of literary devices in literary nonfiction, expository, and argumentative texts. The course emphasizes self-selected texts and collaborative discussions focused on student-directed comprehension, interpretation, and analysis work. Students will write multi-page essays in a writing workshop environment. Research study includes instruction in creating a research plan, synthesizing information, and organizing ideas.
