One of the primary strengths of the National Civic Collaboratory is the variety and diversity of our membership. The nomination process is a way for you, our current members, to suggest civic innovators from around the country and outside of your organization who you believe would be outstanding additions to this group.
Citizen University seeks new National Civic Collaboratory members who would be described as “civic innovators”, people leading with original, dynamic approaches in their work. While catalysts can be engaged anywhere from the community to national level, they should be regionally or nationally networked. Additionally, diversity across age, ideology, place, race, ethnicity, background, sector and skill-set is key to having a robust community to engage with.
The Civic Collaboratory works because people lean in and participate actively in ways that are authentic to them. Therefore, nominees should be interested in sharing their experiences and perspective and be curious about learning those of others in the spirit of building bonds of trust and affection. They should also be open to utilizing their knowledge and network to benefit the collective power of the Collaboratory. We expect new members to step into the role of being an active contributor.
Innovative leaders in the national civic space, addressing community challenges & mobilizing others to do the same.
Curious, relationship builders who are intrigued by practicing new ways of being in community together.
Individuals who value mutuality, understanding that everyone has something they need and everyone has something to contribute.
People who are seeking to bolster the civic culture of our country and our communities and want to lean into cross-sector collaboration as a practice.
Individuals able to make commitments of help and support on behalf of one’s own agency/institution and/or networks.
Ability to travel to and participate in at least one National Civic Collaboratory meeting per year. (The National Civic Collaboratory meets in-person three times per year for two days and also meets once a year, virtually.)
Nominations will be accepted January 3 - February 28 of each year. A selection committee of staff and current members will review and make decisions in April. We will consider each nomination using the above criteria, as well as taking into consideration nominees that continue to diversify our membership. We have a limited space for new members, and will not be able to accept all nominations, but will let you know if we extend an invitation to your nominee.
