Deqing Moganshan Center School

Moganshan Center School is a one hour drive from Hangzhou CIS. In the morning, we complete a variety of activities with the children in the school. In the afternoon, we teach kids how to play Ultimate Frisbee, Badminton, and Bowling, three sports that are largely unfamiliar to them. They have one or two discs or balls at their school, but have never gotten the proper chance to learn the sports. Our aim is to be able to spread these amazing sports to more kids, and let them learn and have fun playing these sports.

April 17, 2024

Today was our final trip to Moganshan school, and it was a very memorable one. Our lessons for the first class was different to the second one. Because it was the last lesson, we did something different. For the first class, we decided we let them play badminton and volleyball against us in the indoor court, as it was raining. We had a very fun time, as the gym was filled with lots of laughter and smiling faces. The children then told us they had a very fun time and wish to see us one day in the future. The most memorable thing that happened during that lesson was that Xavier took on their whole class in a badminton match, and he won.

For the second lesson, we decided to teach them english, as we were all tired from the gym lesson, and we could not go out as it was raining. We took a look in their books and helped teach them a lesson. During that time, the children fought to answer the questions. Our students also interacted with them during the lesson, having talks. The children enjoyed this alternative and we took a few group photos before saying goodbye.

Overall, all of our visits were full of fun and excitement, and our students were reluctant to say goodbye to the students at Moganshan. We ended this year on a high note and we all really enjoyed working with the children.

Today during our visit to Moganshan school, we had our regular sessions of frisbee and basketball, along with a session of learning english. In our frisbee session, we had a few new players, who we taught the basics of throwing and catching while the others warmed up by doing a throwing drill. Following that, we then played a match, with some of the frisbee players switching to volleyball. In the basketball session, we focused on shooting and passing, where we also played some small matches. Then in the second session, we had a group of students who wanted to play badminton, so we taught them badminton. There was also a group of students playing basketball, and they played a match. Overall it was a great experience that taught them many interpersonal skills.

This weeks links started with us splitting the students into 2 groups, those who wanted to play frisbee and those who wanted to play basketball.

For the basketball group, we taught them how to shoot the ball and do lay-ups. If they failed to shoot the ball into the hoop, they had to do a funny dance in front of everyone. After around 1 hour of shooting drills, we had them play matches against each other.

Meanwhile for the frisbee group, we taught them how to throw and pass the frisbee to each other. Then we had them play matches against each other, so it was relatively the same as the basketball group.

Overall, I think that day was filled with joy and the fun of learning something new.

In our frisbee session, we engaged in a 75-minute long match, with the participation of both the Moganshan students and a few of our CIS students who joined their teams. It was a collaborative effort, with our students helping them play the match and showcasing teamwork.

In basketball, the students not only learned dribbling and shooting drills but also actively participated in matches. They put their new skills to the test and had the opportunity to apply what they had learned in a practical setting.

In the English class, the Moganshan students were introduced to basic reading and writing skills in English. The lessons focused on expanding their vocabulary and learning new words. Through interactive activities and practice exercises, they gained confidence in using English and developed their language skills.

Overall, the day at Moganshan School was filled with active participation, learning, and fun.

In this week’s links we had the children play matches in frisbee which we taught them 2 weeks ago. We taught them more of the rules, and began implementing more defending strategies to help them improve. We also did smaller scale drills such as monkey in the idle and defending drills to understand their levels and improvement through our coaching.

As for Basketball, we helped them improve their 1v1 and shooting scenarios, which we did through drills. We also implemented incentives and penalties for scoring or missing, which was effective. Then we did 3v3s which helped them with their communication during matches, and our CIS students helped improve their form.

January 10, 2024

Today started off a bit late, but we were able to snap into action and do what we were supposed to. We split the group into three parts; volleyball, basketball and frisbee, and each group took a few students to teach them their corresponding sport. We had two new students join our Link trip this time, and it was very great to see how they were willing to help and teach the volleyball group. They were really helpful, as we lost a member in our Links. They were also able to bond with the students there, creating unforgettable memories and relationships. The teaching abilities of our members improved drastically as they were more open and willing to lead the students. However, during the second session, we decided to choose to do something different. We had combined everyone in a big group and played basketball. This was because our group members wanted to try something new, and the students too. Usually, the groups are split girls and boys, but this was an opportunity for them to work together, as our goal is to get them to communicate and create bonds with one another. The girls were able to do drills with the boys, and it was great to see how they cheered on one another when they made a basket. After that, the boys wanted to play against us in a basketball match. Even though there was a significant skill difference, we were able to laugh and play together, allowing us to understand the students better. Ronin was also able to chat and play with a few primary students that came out to play on the field. Overall, this session at Moganshan was successful and we are all excited for the next visit.

December 6, 2023

Our visit to Moganshan School was very exciting for both Moganshan students and CIS students. We taught them frisbee, American football, and basketball for the first class, teaching them skills like throwing and catching for frisbee and American football, passing, and shooting for basketball. In the frisbee lessons, we also taught them how to play matches, allowing them to have the full experience of playing frisbee. The basketball group played some 1-on-1s, as well as doing some drills to improve speed, ball control, and shooting. As for the second group, based on their interests we played volleyball and basketball. The principal of the school even challenged us CIS students to play a match against their school’s team. Unfortunately, we lost, with most of the students not knowing how to play beforehand. However, it was a memory that is hard to forget, and we will remember how aloof the students were cheerful and happy during this time.

November 29, 2023

We started our session today with the crowd of students welcoming us. This time, we brought equipment for three different sports: volleyball, basketball and frisbee. We let the students decide what sports they want to play because we aim for each session to be as enjoyable as possible for them. It was very rewarding to see all of them with a smile on their face as we taught them and played with them. They also spent a lot of time talking to us and bonding with us. I remember a group of primary children surrounding Ronin and talking to him. Our basketball volunteers also decided to play a match against the Moganshan basketball team, which was very entertaining to watch, as this helped them bond even more. This was, once again, another great session at Moganshan. We are looking forward to the next visit in January.

Today, we arrived at the school with a warm welcome from the students at Moganshan Center School. The students were waiting for us, and the boys ran over to hug the boys attending the Moganshan Links. They all missed having these lessons with us, which explains their enthusiasm when they saw us arrive. We then quickly split into two groups, volleyball and basketball, and the class then went to the sport they wanted to do. It was really nice to see their progress over the one month break, as they said they have played during the break to impress us. We did some basic drills and warm-ups to get a feel of their level and we adjusted the rest according to their skill levels. During the second class, the students asked us to play a match with them, which helped us bond even more. Near the end of our session today, the girls all wanted me to play and practice with them. It was really nice to see these students wanting to have fun and communicate with us, as last time they were a bit more shy.

The skills helped build their communication and team-building skills. This was evident as we saw most of the students working with people they weren’t really friends with during the match. We all changed the plans if the students wanted to do something, because the most important thing is to have fun. Overall, this trip was really rewarding, because we bonded a lot more with the students over there, and they were all upset when the session ended.

Our visit to Moganshan school was fun and enjoyable for all, the candy and snacks that we brought were especially enticing to the kids.

After getting to Moganshan school, we first met up with the students, with them giving us a welcome. We decided to split the kids into two groups, with half playing basketball, and the other half learning frisbee. In frisbee, our first activity involved teaching them how to throw a backhand throw and to catch. Afterwards, one of their other classes performed a skipping routine for us to watch, and demonstrated some moves for us to learn. Then, we taught them frisbee through the game of monkey in the middle, where we would teach them defending and throwing at the same time.

The students enjoyed our lessons very much, with many students coming up for warm embraces and photos after our lesson.

September 20, 2023

Today is the first time we went to Moganshan Center School. We had two sports going on simultaneously, volleyball and basketball, as the two sports are being held in the Asian Games. We taught them how to dig and set, as we needed a feel on their skill levels.

For volleyball, we had a warm-up, then we did some practice on their dig and sets, and we ended on a match. For basketball, we had a warm-up, then we did lay-up lines, three man weaves and dribble practice, and at last we did 3v3s. Some highlights were that the students there weren’t shy, which made communicating with them no problem. Also, during volleyball, we were able to play some matches and the students had a great time. We look forward to our next visit in November!

March 22, 2023

This was the last Links for HZ10, so we were thinking of planning a big event to do with the students at MGS, but they wanted to give something back to us, so instead, they planned something for us.

At the start, everyone was a bit skeptical about making and eating dumplings, as we were unsure how much we’d actually be able to participate in and whether the food was safe to eat. In the beginning, we weren’t really sure how to join into the activity, as it was split into small groups amongst the MGS students, and they all seemed to know what to do, whereas on the other hand, we had no idea what was going on. After quite a long time, Steven and I finally found an opportunity and jumped into rolling the dough, not long after, the others joined in and the activity seemed to have finally taken off. Moving on from rolling the dough, we could do other things, such as making more dough, cutting up the dough, kneading and shaping the dough, and even mixing the stuffing for the dumplings. Most of us believed that kneading the dough was the funnest, so we spent a long time doing that. Afterward, cutting up some vegetables seemed like fun, so we took turns trying our best to dice it into thin slices, although “attacking randomly" sounds more on point. For the last couple of minutes, some people wanted to try to fold the dumpling to make… well a dumpling, so we split up amongst the small groups, although I can’t say how well others did, I want to say that I think I did pretty well, pretty well meaning that the dumpling did not look like a rotten brain or deflated balloon.

An hour or two had passed, the dumplings were being loaded into the big pot, and we were finally done. At first, we were slightly hesitant to try the dumplings, but after tasting the grenade of flavour, we instantly devoured our bowl of glory stuffed goodness of a food.

Right before leaving, we took one final photo with the people of Moganshan, and that was it: the last time setting our foot on the campus that has given us a wondrous experience. It felt, sorta bittersweet, as if we were leaving behind something and never looking back. All in all, I am happy that we were able to go to MGS, and I believe it was the same for everyone in my group, I hope next year can have just as much fun as us and goodbye.

March 15, 2023

For today’s Links, it was a bit different from the usual. For starters, we did not go to Moganshan Center School, instead, we went to a park nearby. This special occasion was due to the Moganshan Center School wanting to give something back to us. In the park, we first split into 5 groups with a mix of CIS and MGS students, then we went inside a cozy little building to start our Chocolate DIY making! The procedure was easy: melt some chocolate by putting it over hot water, using different coloured chocolates to decorate the mold, then pour the melted chocolate into the mold. After setting the mold in the fridge, we went on to enjoy some cake and fruits on the lush grass field. We then proceeded to play some frisbee, unfortunately, we had quite the packed schedule, so we quickly moved on to do some painting. This was unlike any other painting we’ve done, because our canvas was a frisbee! Everyone got to paint whatever they wanted, some painted landscapes, some Doraemon (it was scary how many people chose to draw Doraemon, it was at least ½) and some just random things. Time was almost up, so everyone went back into the building to finally enjoy the chocolate we’ve been craving for so long. It was delicious! Something about making it yourself really exemplifies the deliciousness of it.

March 11, 2023

Today was a very special day for the Moganshan students as well as us CIS students. We managed to plan an entire day’s visit with less than a week’s notice as well as many team members being sick.

The visit started at 10:30 when the Moganshan students arrived. We showed them around HHE as well as the academic building, and then moved onto the dorms during break so the two schools could interact. Afterwards, we went back to the theatre to watch Beyond videos and showed them what we did for the programme. After a short walk to the gym and the field, we had an early lunch so they could have time to prepare for their jumprope performance. At 1:00, we gathered everyone at school between the academic building and dorm building to watch an amazing jumprope performance by the Moganshan primary students, followed up by Iris, Giselle, and Maegan’s dance. We then split into three activities, Indoor fun and games, outdoor frisbee, and a nature walk. Finally, we took some group photos at 3:20, and sent them off.

This visit wouldn’t have been possible without all the help from our links members as well as the other links leaders , and of course Mr Pollock, Mr Cruickshank, and Principle Zhang. Overall everything went great!

Yesterday, Shati’s Links got canceled, so we were able to gain an extra 3 people. Although it was a bit late for us to make any changes to our plans, having more people to teach our class was definitely beneficial. Because we felt that last week’s class was a bit boring and drained of energy, we decided to lean more on the creative side going into this class. It worked really well for the first class, as everyone loved to draw and actively wanted to participate whilst learning more English vocabulary. The second class, not so much. Although it started off really well, I think that because their English was already higher than the last class, they didn’t feel challenged by our activities, thus they lost interest over time. The girls from Shati, Sophie and Olivia, really helped open up the girls to talking more and socializing with everyone, which Steven and I weren’t able to do very well before. Lastly, for our 1 hour of sports time, we were somehow able to get both the boys and the girls playing football together, which doesn’t sound like much, but is a huge achievement for us.

For the third links session for the second semester. After finishing our meal, we headed towards Moganshan Center School. Our group has created our plans for our future sessions and was prepared to be immersed in this unique experiment. Throughout the afternoon, Lewis and I were responsible for teaching the English course, while Nathan, Justin, Dennis, and Eric were responsible for sports activities. Each and every one of us demonstrated collaboration skills and devoted our best efforts throughout the process so we can offer the best experience for students at Moganshan School. We value this learning experience and were able to observe the learning style of local schools.

February 15, 2023

For our second semester, two of our previous groupmates left, which only left us with 7 people. This rendered us unable to split into three groups to teach different classes like before: Basketball, Arts & Crafts, and English. So instead, we cut Arts & Crafts from our schedule completely and changed it to Sports & Activities and Academics. Going into this, I was skeptical because I was afraid this would cause confusion for the Moganshan school, but to my relief, they understood quickly and were able to adapt to our change.

Although I say that they were cooperative, there was something that was… less than preferable. I’m not sure what changed, but for some reason, the students didn’t have the same motivation and energy in class as they did last semester. I am unclear about the Sports & Activities side, but it was a bit awkward this time. Something positive that did happen was for the last hour where everyone gathered at the field and just played around. I played football with most of the boys and everyone had a great time.

December 7, 2022

Today was our last time collaborating with Moganshan this semester, so we used this as a final opportunity to teach and connect with the Moganshan students. After arriving at the school, we continued the usual schedule and enjoyed lunch provided to us by the school. We spent extra time quickly organizing and making last-minute changes to our final plans, and then approached the students who were eager to learn and play. This time, we split our session into basketball, winter-themed arts and crafts, and English games again, finding new activities to keep the classes fresh and entertaining for the students. Each student had a chance to choose the type of activity they preferred, allowing them to explore something that they were more passionate about. In the end, each group had around 10 students to work with. The basketball students continued developing their skills by practicing drills and playing mini-games to simulate their techniques in real scenarios, while the arts and crafts kids cut their snowflakes in different shapes and sizes to decorate their stations. The English kids continued to provide engaging activities to the students, allowing them to develop their English skills in a stress-free and interactive environment.

After 2 hours of teaching the students, all the students went to the field to play sports to further connect. Different students played different sports with each other, including a small volleyball match that created teams mixed with Moganshan and CIS students. Despite the cold weather, seeing all the student's passion for these activities warmed our hearts, and at the end of the day, we departed the school, thankful for all the opportunities given to meet new people and go out of our comfort zone.

November 23, 2022

Today, we returned to Moganshan, ready with new materials and class plans to continue working with the students. After arriving at the Moganshan school early in the afternoon, we settled into a routine we were all familiar with and enjoyed lunch given by the school. While waiting for the student's classes to begin, we continued planning for the classes in the afternoon, gathering materials and looking through the schedule to make any last changes to enhance the experience. We decided to split into 3 classes again, however this time slightly altering the class content to ensure that the students were entertained and interested in the topics taught. We focused on basketball games, watching culturally rich English movies, and fun English games.

At around 1 PM, we gathered at the classroom and split the students based on the subject they were passionate about, resulting in an even number of around 10 kids per group. The basketball group introduced interactive basketball games to the students, such as knockout, passing and dribbling, and more. These games included both interesting and educational aspects, allowing the students to develop as a team and focus on their basketball skills. The movie group enjoyed movies such a Luca with the Moganshan students, allowing them to relax and use this period to take a break instead of stressing over their studies. The movies chosen were also rich in history and culture, allowing them to learn more about different places and practice their English listening skills in an engaging manner. The other English group continued with their "play" styled learning and incorperated elements like piano playing, drawing, and more to keep the students entertained and willing to learn. In the end, the CIS and Moganshan students also had a short period of time to play and connect over basketball, volleyball, and frisbee. After 3 hours of successful interactions between both schools, we headed back to CIS and started planning for the next time.

It was heartwarming to see students flourishing in topics that they were truly curious about, and their passion towards these new ideas that were introduced inspires all of us. We can't wait to see them next time.

November 16, 2022

Today, we met with the Moganshan students for another fruitful session, this time accompanied by special guests, including Mr. Lynch, Mr. Cruickshank, Zhang Xiaozhang, and other staff that came along to visit the campus. After arriving at the school in the morning, we ate lunch provided by the school and quickly introduced ourselves to some faculty members that came in, comprised of both HZCIS and Moganshan’s leadership team. When they left, the Moganshan students were still having a break, so we spent the rest of the period preparing for the afternoon sessions we were going to conduct, such as gathering materials, touring the school, interacting with the kids, or revising the class schedule.

At 1:00 PM, we headed down to the classrooms and briefly introduced the class sessions we would host today. After recognizing the success of the activities we chose last time, we decided to continue with fun English activities, a basketball game, and more arts and crafts. Each Moganshan student was able to choose the task that they were interested in, resulting in each task having around 10 Moganshan students. Then, we split up into these groups and went to our respective locations. The arts and crafts students first learned how to make a kite with a Moganshan art teacher, learning about the special history and culture behind the significance of bamboo at this school. Then, the arts and crafts group focused on teaching students how to create their own friendship bracelets, using easy techniques and appealing colors to ensure the students were engaged, having fun, and could have a chance to work on their hand-eye coordination. Meanwhile, the English group provided the students with more worksheets that they created prior to the session, “gamifying” the content and adding interesting games like crosswords to make the experience both insightful and captivating. They also entertained the students by telling them short anecdotes, allowing the students to work on their English communication skills and also hear about a life different from theirs. The basketball group continued playing matches with the Moganshan students, making the teams an integration between CIS and Moganshan students to encourage teamwork, resilience, and respect, allowing all students to interact with each other.

After 3 hours of playing sports, teaching students, and connecting with them, we headed back to school and reflected on aspects that we could improve on for the next session. We are looking forward to working with them next week!

October 26, 2022

Today was our second official session with the Moganshan Center School, where we were able to conduct more personalized sessions with the students to better interact with them and teach them life-long lessons. After arriving at the school in the afternoon, we had a quick lunch in the library, occasionally communicating with the Principal of the school to ensure all of the teaching sessions were in order and that everything would run smoothly. After lunch, we had an hour in the library to prepare our materials and finalize the class plans, focusing on the three “classes” that we prepared: basketball, English, and arts and crafts. These classes were decided on last week, when we gained knowledge on what the students were passionate about learning, and combined them with our hobbies and interests to create sessions that both parties would be willing to partake in and build connections over.

Soon, when the Moganshan students finished their break and were prepared to start learning, we split into our 3 groups and allowed the students to choose a session that they wanted to explore. In the end, each group of around 3-4 CIS students was paired up with around 15 Moganshan students, everyone content to start talking to each other. Relying on the class plans that we also produced last week, each group quickly started working with the students at their own pace. The students in charge of basketball focused on ball-handling skills, teaching the Moganshan students how to dribble and incorporate different moves into their gameplay to improve their offense. The competitive yet encouraging nature of basketball allowed the students to motivate each other and work as a team to grow together. On the other hand, the English group provided the students with fun and entertaining worksheets for them to complete, including word searches, hangman, crossword, and more. Through these worksheets, they were able to create a comfortable and interactive environment where the Moganshan students could perform hands-on activities to develop a positive mindset toward English and build a better foundation for their English skills. The group that focused on arts and crafts provided students with colorful paper and worked on folding origami animals together, creating paper frogs, hearts, butterflies, and more, building a mini-zoo full of unique creatures that reflected every student’s personality and identity.

After 3 hours of working with the Moganshan students, the groups got back together and headed back to campus. Overall, this session was a great success - the personalized and specific sessions allowed the students to explore something that they were passionate about or gave them a chance to step out of their comfort zone. It also allowed us to better connect with them, as we were able to converse about topics that everyone was familiar with, but had different perspectives on. We can’t wait to see these students again.

October 12, 2022

Today marked the first day of the 2022-2023 HZCIS and Moganshan Center School collaboration, beginning the start of a wonderful experience between both schools this year. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the principal of the school, who introduced us to the history behind Moganshan Center School, such as the reason behind the bamboo arts and crafts scattered across the school. After a quick lunch provided by the school, where we discussed our future plans for this collaboration and what we planned to accomplish today, we had a brief break to explore the school while waiting for the students to finish class. We used this opportunity to walk around the classrooms and field to familiarize ourselves with the environment, occasionally waving at curious students who were eager to talk to us.

Soon, we met with the Moganshan students, who were only a few years younger than us. Our aim for today’s session was to begin establishing a relationship with these students and adapt to this new setting. Thus, we focused on playing sports to connect with these students, splitting into 3 groups for frisbee, basketball, and volleyball, where each CIS student helped 5-6 Moganshan students. At first, we introduced them to small games in our respective sports that allowed us to work on our reaction skills, motor skills, and hand-eye coordination, as well as getting to know each other more. For example, one group of frisbee players passed the disc in a circle while moving around, providing each other support while playing. After everyone was warmed up, we started to play mini-games with all the students, a simulation of a small competition, to allow them to further develop their skills and encourage team spirit. During water breaks, we sat down with some students and talked to them, learning about each other’s hobbies and brainstorming topics that we could teach next time. After 3 hours of playing sports and interacting, we said our goodbyes to each other and headed back.

Overall, this was an eye-opening experience where we were able to step out of our comfort zone and meet new people. We are all looking forward to next time’s visit!

In today’s Links trip, we visited the MoganShan school for the first time. We arrived at the school in one hour and got a mini-tour before starting our activities in the morning. The school was established in 1932 and was originally spread across 4 campuses. In 2006, all 4 Moganshan schools merged, and it is now the beautiful campus as we see it. They have around 500 students and about 40 teachers. They also have a volleyball and football team following many other sports, such as ping pong, basketball, and frisbee. Before we met our fellow Moganshan students, we had to think of an activity and how we would like to do this.

For this week, we decided to go with frisbee. We split up into pairs and created 6 groups of people leading 5-7 Moganshan kids. When we met the kids, we started by doing some ice breaker activities. For example, my group passed the disc around in a circle, and when they caught the disc, they would say their name and a hobby. After the icebreakers, we started teaching them the basic throwing skills in frisbee, such as backhand and forehand. Each group had around 1 hour to teach their small group the basics of frisbee and how the game works. My group started with just learning the throws, then moving onto a small game within ourselves, and finally a small drill to help them move into space with a defender. After that, we all gathered together and started the big competition. The HZCIS kids also got to participate in this competition! It was an enjoyable and meaningful experience for all of us, and we are looking forward to going again next week!

Our final day was very fulfilling and successful. After weeks of planning, we were finally able to almost perfect the lesson plans for each sport.

Since it was our final day, the Moganshan principal accompanied us to a coffee shop where we enjoyed coffee. Moreover, they showed us around Moganshan and its attractions. The experience was eye-opening and very enticing for us as we further connected with the community partner. Swiftly after this, we went back to the campus and taught our sports. They cooperated well with our instructions and had an exciting day of sports learning. Lastly, we took a final group photo with them before we left. Overall, these links trips were very amazing as we were able to experience something so drastically different from school life.

May 19, 2021

Today we went to Moganshan school for the second time out of three. In the morning we engaged in a cultural/social activity they had planned for us in which we were taught how to make traditional kites along with a buddy from the 2nd/3rd year middle school classes. After eating lunch, we then returned to the gym and engaged in our activities from before. Success rate from this time was much higher as we had reviewed our issues from last time and had them fixed up, with the students leading Badminton (Arthur Ho and Nathan Wong) finding particular success in engaging with the students.

April 21, 2021

In the morning, we participated in one of the events organised by the school, in which people would create a moving grid with bamboo poles that one had to jump through. Our team participated in such an event and found it quite amusing and interesting. In the afternoon, we provided classes in badminton, ultimate frisbee as well as bowling for the students. Due to a rather hasty organization of LINKS this year, many of us were ill-equipped and did not have the materials or planning time to facilitate the events. Despite this we managed to mostly successfully teach the students about the respective sports. Since we now know the logistical issues posed from today, our goal should be to request for adequate resources in order to have a more fruitful session.

In the morning, we observed a class in second grade, they were learning about how to be a good tourist, speaking about an old train station and how it progressed over time. Next week, we will be teaching these students English related subjects.

In the afternoon, after lunch, we visited the train station that they learned in class, as well as plan for what we are going to be teaching at that day and future days. Then it rained. Luckily they had a gym that we could use to teach them, although there was limited space, we managed to split the space into a suitable size for each group. We taught for 1 hour and then class was dismissed. Rugby and Frisbee was taught like other weeks, with little problems. The Volleyball team had the most problems, because there were a lot of people, and they were also of a younger age, meaning that they are harder to control. We are thinking of changing the class, or just cancelling the volleyball class as a whole.

This week was our second time teaching at the Moganshan Center School, and our first full day. We left school at 9am to get there and do a tour around the school and visit classes from 10:40 to 11:20. They were the 2nd graders we would be teaching in that time period for future times. After we ate lunch, we sat in our designated room and discussed what we were going to teach the kids that had to be related to English, we narrowed it down to animals and words, and came up with a few class plans, but never completed it. We also further discussed with our individual groups how we are going to be teaching our sport.

For ultimate frisbee, we were more familiar with the group, and therefore knew that they were very diverse in skill level and motivation levels, and chose to go to individual group to teach them. The biggest problem we had was motivating this group of 8 that just wanted to mess around, we solved this by making each group do a different activity.

In the group of volleyball, when we first arrived at Moganshan we didn't expect us to have a 30-student class for us to handle. I myself found it quite hard to handle, as we were trying to get along with the kids and also get them to focus, which was very difficult to achieve. Overall this experience was very memorable and despite having to go through trouble and struggling between being nice and getting them to obey, we found this program very enjoyable and would like to go back if we could.

In our first session of teaching Ultimate Frisbee, Rugby, and Volleyball, we got to bond with the students in Moganshan Center School, as well as having fun in the process. We had three different groups, each teaching one of the sports mentioned above, they each consisted of around 20 students, with 3 to 4 of us in each group teaching. We played ice breaking games to get comfortable with each other, and then we brought out the discs/balls. Each group did different things with their groups, but they all consisted of letting the students understand the sport, as they were all new to them. We did activities including passing the frisbee or balls around, playing tag or splat, and monkey in the middle with the disc. Some groups got to teaching rules, others got to teach throwing and catching, and all the groups got to know their group quite well, and all of the students there were smiling and were happy

Today we visited Moganshan Center School and talked to the principal of the middle school and primary school there. We discussed about what we were going to do in the full day classes, we haven’t come to a conclusion yet but we are thinking of having some sort of immersion class for the bamboo and kite making culture they have been enthusiastically sharing about during the day. We have decided one splitting into multiple groups, teaching rugby, volleyball, and of course, ultimate frisbee. This choice was made because they have a request for more groups as they have many students, and one group is not enough. We will have to formulate a plan and give it to them by the friday before tuesday, so we have to plan what we will be doing 4 days later for each week other than this week because we have national day.

Today we stayed on the HZCIS campus. We figured out what we are going to say on the 24th to the kids, and what we will do first. We decided on doing ice breaking games so we can get familiar with each other, and since we have so many people, we can split their group up into 5 groups and then pair it with 2 of us. We are planning on not doing any frisbee the first day, although we will still bring the equipment just in case.
