Hangzhou Hunt

Hangzhou 9

November 19, 2021

The second annual Hangzhou Hunt built upon the successes of the previous year. After three weeks of quarantine  and two more weeks of health monitoring, students couldn't wait to explore their new city without any restrictions. This year's Hunt was bigger and better than the year before, with 19 members of staff spread out throughout the city. The costumes were more creative and the escapees more wily, but everyone was safely retrieved in just under four hours. Students and staff enjoyed lunch and some leisure time before taking a lakeside group photo and then finally returning to campus.

Miss Clare became the first escapee to be found. She was enjoying a walk in the Xixi Wetlands when S201 tracked her down at 8:43am. A great start to the day for S201!

Mr. Langley was deviously dressed as a coffee shop employee when he was identified by N202 at 8:51am.

N301 got the early award for persistence. After a thorough search of this area, they gave up--but later returned--to capture a well-disguised Chen Yuan laoshi at 9:14am.

S201 became the first dorm to find a SECOND teacher. After scouring the wetlands, they approached a security guard for help at 9:17. Surprise, surprise! The security guard was Li laoshi!

Ms. Lopez was found by S202 at 9:26 walking through a small park in the middle of the city.

Mrs. Pollock was apprehended at 9:45am just trying to enjoy a cup of coffee. She was employing the classic double-mask strategy when S202 spotted her. This capped an amazing 20 minutes for this dorm, as they captured two teachers in that short time span.

Ms. Welsh's choice of black wig made her a very difficult find, but N202 spotted her on a bridge at 9:30am, their second capture of the day!

Lin laoshi was walking across a different kind of bridge through the beautiful 黄龙洞 area when N402 tracked her down at 9:58am.

In perhaps the most strenuous find of the day, S201 literally climbed mountains to bring in avid hiker Mr. Garrett at 10:10am. Excellent work embracing the challenge and navigating this increased level of difficulty!

Fresh off finding Lin laoshi, N402 quickly found Mr. Wro wandering through the beautiful western area of 西湖 at 10:44. But not so fast! Before being captured, Mr. Wro required the group to sing a beautiful rendition of Wro, Wro, Wro Your Boat.

At 10:50, N202 became the first dorm to capture a THIRD teacher, as they found a scary-looking, green-faced Mr. Donohoe on the north side of the West Lake

A minute later, at 10:51, Lance was identified on 青芝坞 by S302, near the entrance to Hangzhou's beautiful botanical gardens.

Already having captured Ms. Lopez and Mrs. Pollock, S202 added another teacher at 11:23, locating a well-hidden Wang laoshi in 玛瑙寺/连横纪念馆.

No teacher was "on the run" longer than Ms. Hsieh, who was visible to students for 91 minutes before finally being caught at 11:28. S301 and N401 were both in the area looking for some time, but S301 ultimately saw her first.

N301 made their second capture of the day near a popular children's park on the north side of the West Lake, where Mr. Cruickshank was spotted at 11:44.

Sylvia, from N202, is seen here posing with Ms. Rizzo at 11:45. This was N202's fourth find of the day.

It was a photo finish to capture Zhang laoshi, who was taking some time out of her busy schedule to have a cup of tea by the lake. With two groups converging on her at 11:47, it was too close to call, so both S202 and S302 receive credit for the find.

N202 kept it going by grabbing Mr. Tang just four minutes later, at 11:49. With this, N202 set the all-time record for most captures in Hangzhou Hunt history. Amazing!

With just one minute left in the Hangzhou Hunt and still looking for their first find, N302 showed remarkable perseverance, locating Xu laoshi at the Kerry Center at 11:59am. The team rewarded themselves with drinks and snacks. Great job, N302!
