Hangzhou Hunt

Hangzhou 10

September 2, 2022

The third annual Hangzhou Hunt was arguably the biggest and best iteration of the wildly popular student orientation activity. Students were seen bustling with energy and anticipation as the activity was explained. 12 dorm groups rushed out to find and bring in the 20 escaped staff members as quickly as possible. They climbed mountains, crossed bridges, and overcame extremely elusive teachers, some dressed in deviously challenging costumes.

The event also saw a previous record shattered, as one dorm became the first ever to locate 5 staff members spread out around the city in just under 4 hours. As usual, dorms concluded the morning by having lunch together by the West Lake before posing for a group photo. A memorable welcome to their new city for HZ10!

Mr. Cruickshank was located first in record time by S401. He was seen walking along the canal near school at 9:34am.

Ms. Lee was found in dramatic fashion at 9:39am.  Well done S402 - they located Ms Lee on a coffee break in Starbucks ☕️ and was sent off to a mini Rmb50 challenge at Walmart to get ‘energy supplies’ for the rest of the hunt! S402 just beat out six other dorms who were also hot on the chase!

N402 found Mr. Garrett in a nearby park at 9:47. As a bonus, students were also delighted to find a mini-Garrett!

Ms. Monica was seen walking on a bridge in Xixi Wetlands (西溪湿地). Apparently she was doing some early reconnaissance work in preparation for our springtime dragon boat races that take place there. Congrats to N202 for finding her at 9:53am.

At 10:12, the boys of S202 noticed a familiar face sitting in a small park off Baochu lu. Turns out it was our IT Technician, Freya, who was enjoying some time with nature after a very busy week ensuring wifi connectivity for our students in their quarantine rooms

Looking like he just stepped off the set of HBO's show House of the Dragon, Mr. Stewart was located at 10:31 by N301 in the trendy Tianmuli (天目里) shopping area.

N402 becomes the first dorm to find TWO TEACHERS, as they spot Song laoshi walking through a bamboo forest in the beautiful Hangzhou botanical gardens at 10:42am.

N202 joins the exclusive two-teacher club! Miss Clare was tracked down just outside the enchanting Yellow Dragon Cave (黄龙洞) at 10:50am.

The Grand Canal certainly helped Hangzhou become a more fashionable city. This is where Design teacher Ms. Hsieh was spotted by N401 at 10:55am.

Not only was N402 first to find Ms. Rizzo, but they got a nice treat when they arrived at 11:13. The lotus flowers (荷花) were in their annual full bloom near the beautiful north side of the West Lake. Having found their THIRD teacher, N402 is having an amazing day!

In what might be the best costume of the day, Carol was found at 11:27 by S401. Cloaked in meituan (美团) garb, she was passed by several groups who failed to immediately identify her. Congrats boys on finding your second staff member of the day!

N202 has demonstrated some remarkable strength and teamwork, as they hiked to Baochu Pagoda to track down Mrs. Pollock at 11:37. This marks their 3rd teacher found!

Wow! ANOTHER find for N402, their fourth of the morning. There is nothing stopping this group. Mr. Wro was located looking relaxed and casually strolling near the tranquil western side of the 西湖 at 11:39.

Lin laoshi was seen near a cosy cafe in a bustling part of town. N401 recorded the capture at 11:47am, their second of the morning!

Ms. Welsh was seen enjoying the wonderful Gushan Park (孤山公园) at 11:51. This was the second staff member found by S202.

Perhaps the most prolific capture of the day was made by S402, as Director Zhang was seen drinking tea along Bai Causeway (白堤) at 12:02pm. Congrats to this dorm for finding their second staff member of the day!

Xu laoshi was discovered in a bookstore at 12:05 by N201. This was the first teacher for the dorm. Congratulations for your perseverance!

Despite having already found four teachers, N402 kept up their torrid pace, locating Wang laoshi at 12:10pm near 放鶴亭. A truly extraordinary morning for this team that will surely go down in the Hangzhou Hunt history books.

At 12:15, Tianqi became the last member of staff to be found. She was spotted by S401 enjoying herself in the Qingzhiwu (青芝坞) neighborhood, near the lovely Hangzhou botanical gardens.

ALSO, in a fun new twist this year, a special team of four students unable to join us yet comprised a special sketch artist team. These sketches were used by students to help identify their escaped teachers.
