We schedule at least 8 shifts of “In Training” shifts for all FOH New Team Members and 3 weeks of “In Training” Shifts for all BOH New Team Members. This is another investment into our Retention and Low Turnover Rates but ultimately an investment into our future success. During these training shifts the new team member is scheduled alongside a certified Trainer for the duration of their shift. The Trainer is responsible to cover all listed items on the positional One Click Passport (covered later) and step in any time the Trainee is overwhelmed.
We reserve advanced Training schedules for certain critical positions until after the Team member has been with us for more than 60-90 days depending on full-time and part-time status. These advanced Training shifts are scheduled as “In Training” house shifts in Hotschedules, and the Team Member is responsible for requesting to pick up these shifts. This process is the same for both FOH and BOH. The Advanced Training is reserved for the following positions:
Front of House
Bagging
DT Window
Mobile Cash Belt
Back of House
Breading
Screens 1, 2, 3, 4 (Boards area)
Prep (which requires an additional 1 week of prep training

We have an extensive program(s) for our advancing Team Members to grow into the first levels of Leadership in our Restaurant. The first level of Leadership is the Trainer title. These folks have exhibited Excellence, Stewardship, and Influence in all areas covered by the Path 4 Growth document and are Available, Reliable, and highly Competent in all positions. They have also taken and passed all required Pathway Training courses and have spent time leading and understanding Food Safety inspections and have practices both sides of Coaching (both Encouraging good behavior/attitudes and correcting poor behavior/attitudes in others).
The Trainer is not only responsible for Training and shadowing newer Team Members they also serve as an extension of the Team Leader who is running the shift (1 FOH and 1 BOH). They are a vital part of the success of the Shift Leaders shift and are placed throughout the restaurant so that multiple areas are always covered by someone in leadership. The Trainers are held responsible for a Trainee’s mistakes.
