Every year, we elect new school council representatives from each class (years 2-6). They will be responsible for communicating their class's ideas and wants as well as participating in numerous co-curricular activities.
Here are some examples of what our school councils have changed:
The school council arranged and ran a school-wide bake sale, aimed at helping raise money for Children in Need. Last year, they raised over £400! All sales were made from parental donations of baked goods, so all profits got to go to the charity.
Every summer, the school council take part in the Great British Litter Pick! A nation wide campaign to clean up our local streets and encourage others to take pride in their community.
At the start of the year, the school council was awarded a small grant to improve an outdoor space on the school site. They chose to create a living 'learning space', complete with a growing green wall to enclose an outdoor classroom.
The children in the school council introduced a very successful tuck shop. Children cooked food on Friday afternoons to sell the following Monday.
This is a great venture that has been enjoyed by the children. We are looking to revitalise this in the future.
The school council have been out around our local area picking litter to make our local area better. This links well to one of our IB links (action) where the children learn to have a positive impact on our community.
Last year, the School Council were keen to take advantage of the Government's offer to double all donations made to Save the Children between November 2023 and January 2024. They held a Christmas Jumper Competition, asking for a £1 donation to enter.
On National Christmas Jumper Day, over 400 children entered, with the winner being a well-deserving girl in Year 6. Over £800 was raised for the charity.
